Her (new) current salary makes it possible to pay off that debt in a single year.
That’s usually how career advancement works.

And why bring it up? You want big gov morality police on how people spent their money? What kind of idea is that you presented, communism?
Not at all. I think forgiving student loan debt is the government robbing people of agency, same as what happened with the housing crisis.

I haven’t been outspoken against AOC. When she first one, I saw it perhaps as the leading indicator of a political shift. What has become clear over time is that she is nothing more than a glorified social media influencer who got to play Congress.

What events transpired that made that clear?

Uhmm, she was saying it was a struggle to pay it off as a BARTENDER. When she got her expensive haircut she was a MEMBER OF CONGRESS. Gee, I wonder if that wasn’t a minor raise.

Yes, it is good to admit you are wrong. I hope you’re adult enough to do so.
But that is exactly my point! Like most people with a college degree, the expectation is that over time, you make more money and pay off the debt that YOU chose to incur. I doubt that she was going to high end salons as a bartender. Now she can, and still balance her debt. There is no need for the government to intervene.

I provided the citation you asked for. You are free to be an adult an acknowledge it at any time.

"I think it's so funny, a year ago, I was waiting tables in a restaurant and it was literally easier for me to become the youngest woman in American history elected to Congress than it is to pay off my student loan debt." - OCZ

Sure sounds like she was struggling to pay off that debt. Will you continue to be obtuse and argue semantics? It’s ok to admit when you’re wrong, at least that’s what a wise person once told me.

You switched verb tense. "Was" being the operative term, not "is". Her $174K salary is obviously much higher than her previous income.

You did not provide the citation I asked for, you provided a citation that said she struggled with her debt at a point in time where she made way less money than she did when she got an expensive haircut. You implied someone struggling with their debt should not get expensive haircuts, not someone who had struggled with their debt at an earlier point should not get expensive haircuts.

Now my bet is you’re going to dig in here yet again because you’re not adult enough to admit a mistake.

Doctor’s aren’t living paycheck to paycheck. I actually know quite a few. They make so much money, that maintaining some student loan debt is part of their financial planning.

I know a lot more. Certainly not living paycheck to paycheck. I'm curious as to how/why they're maintaining student loan debt as part of their financial planning. Or is that just an odd way of wording that they're financial planning includes their student loans. Seems like you are suggesting it's a positive for them.

I was just going to post this. House reps get paid nearly $200k per year; waiting tables at a restaurant doesn't. I'm sure she's making massive progress with her student loans and can now afford an "expensive" haircut...

Critical thinking is severely lacking in a lot of people.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Congress Critters get some kind of clothing/grooming allowance. They all need to be in front of camera.

You guys' president is being impeached and you can't get your minds off of this young House member and how powerful you seem to think she is.

I get it, you're all confused because she's incredibly hot but also as informed by your circus media "a communist." This creates problems for you.

Seek help, I guess, but at least start focusing on actual things that affect you in your life. Not someone's haircut.

Oh look--Trump signed the death warrant for 10s of thousands of Kurds because of his Trump towers. Maybe focus on something that matters?

Citation needed as to her claiming to struggle with her debt. Saying she has debt is not the same as saying she is struggling with it
This is what you asked for. This is what I cited. Don’t need to dig in. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

You did not. Trying to pretend that I was asking if she had struggled with debt at any point in her life is an embarrassing lie and you know it. You said you admit when you’re wrong, I have yet to see it.

Anyways your pathetic attempts to lie about this are here for everyone to see so there’s no need to discuss it further.

I'm having trouble making sense of that. What "agency" do you speak of?
Agency is the human capacity to make decisions. People enter into contracts knowing full well the terms. I support democratic socialism. I support government regulation of banks. I do not support enabling irresponsible debt management.

Lesson being every person who rose up the hard way from poverty/subsistence living and wishes that their fellow working class citizens be as successful as they are by having the gov't enact laws that benefit them rather than how it now mostly benefit the very wealthy, should not reap the benefits of their hard work and good fortune.

Those benefits should only be enjoyed by folks that are born into wealth of whom consider those benefits as a privileged birthright rather than benefits that should be acquired from sweat working their way up the ladder of success.

Yep, every person not born into wealth having to scrape their way into a better life should not get to enjoy the fruits of their success. They should give their monies to the very wealthy because the very wealthy are the only ones that should enjoy the benefits of being able to afford a $300 hair cut.

Odd way to concede the point, but this is your predictable go to “last word”. I’ll take it.

What makes you think that her comment were about herself and not to set student loans in general in context? You did the same mistake as the OP... you made it about her. Cause your feels. Shame on you.

Jesus. Why is this tread still going on?

She gets a haircut/color done that is about average pricing.

As far for her debts. It is not like she is trying to default on them or get government assistance for it.

um, because she was talking about her own personal debt. Less knee jerk, more logic next time.

As if 18 year olds really understand what it is to sign away decades of future earnings for a kiss & a promise of higher future earnings. As if the economy in the wake of the crash offered sufficient opportunities for our young people to take an alternative path.
