Oh, please. Modern methods & materials have revolutionized many of the Trades, from plastic pipe to nail guns to self diagnostic systems in autos & beyond.

Sort of correct.
I know a guy with a 53(?) Thunderbird and he had trouble finding a place that could do an alignment.
Apparently most in the area have switched to computerized alignments. Bunch of different garages simply didn’t have the program for an old car or didn’t have the skill to work on it.

That's BS. I criticized Obama on policy, not appearance.

What you're doing here is in the entire thing is criticizing her on appearance and spending on her appearance.

If you criticized her based on policy then we could atleast have a logical discussion but even I know there's no argument to be had on Trump spending 10,000 on an orange toupee every week.

Or maybe there is if I was dumb and desperate as the right wing is now.
Heh, reminds me of the collective “liberal” voice in here when Obama fumbled the line in the sand in Syria : WTF Obama?
Now years later a Trump is abusing obstructing colluding conspiring and selling foreign politics to foreign nations for personal profit and finally ONE conservative came out against the golden calf.
It’s also why it’s moot arguing with many of them cause in their minds the rules don’t apply to them. Only to you.

This is mostly untrue, trade unions require years of training to achieve progressive skill levels, and incendentally, there's more to mechanical than gluing plastic pipe together.

I’ll agree here too. Guy I went to school with went into construction and he seems to be living the good life. He’s appeared to be very safety conscious and doesn’t appear to have any body ailments at this time.

I was too young when Reagan and 41 were POTUS. I didn't want to believe too many lies Bush administration was telling because I thought they were acting in the best interest of the country because of 9/11.

But now because of Trump the facade has been lifted. The only thing Republicans ever do is lie and blame others to get in power and stay in power. And they want power for only one reason.. to enrich themselves and their donors at the cost of others.

It's only the democrats and progressives that have given rights and protections to people except maybe Justice Kennedy. And if what we have continues where the Republicans and Trump don't believe in laws and the constitution what's to prevent the democrats from doing the same and then do we really have a country?

He has a point but I do agree it’s possible to concentrate on more than one thing at a time

It's acceptable to concentrate on the ....problem of haircuts?

Defending this defends the notion that people of means shouldn't care about those without, and shouldn't spend their time doing such work, regardless of their means and regardless of their integrity or results.

The entire premise of this thread is abject garbage. Conservatives have replaced their Hilary hate, based on decades of gaslit false events with AOC hate, concocted from the same sort of fallacies disguised as a false hypocrisy that they ascribe to their "enemies."

Conceding the value of such an argument is the exact same as the tolerance paradox: the more you concede the validity of false, dishonest arguments, only such arguments will remain. People that support this fallacy have no desire for honest debate or engaging in actual problems. Giving them any ground simply validates their playground strategy of shitting on the chess board and declaring victory.

Notice that not one conservative has a legitimate complaint about AOC in terms of active policy. It is all about this brain worm that they nourish of her couple of months working as a bartender, simply to help support her mom, absolutely defines who she is "a bartender"

Such people are inherently dishonest, incurious about educating themselves, and will forever refuse to engage in adult conversation. Such people should be dismissed outright until they display any interest in climbing out of this trap of self-biasing argumentative fallacies that they have constructed as a protective shield against the many uncomfortable truths that define their inherent weakness, and immorality.

Over 300 replies on the thread based on outrage that a woman spent too much money on a haircut. Holy crap, conservatives are reaching. In other news, I had too many beers a month ago while watching football. The shenanigans!

My wife has paid that much for a haircut before and I dont quite make as much as AOC. A woman on camera practically every day paid for a haircut? RABBLE!

Seriously. Get a grip.

This is hilarious.

It wasn't just a haircut. It was a cut and color.

Tell me, what is the hourly rate for skilled labor? Does 80 an hour sound fair in high rent areas like DC?

I think so.

It's what I charge for personal training (my retirement job/hobby).

AOC was in the salon for nearly 3 hours. Take out the rent, insurance, taxes and other overhead and the stylist earned about 60 an hour.

I live in Los Angeles and a cut and color for my wife is in the 300 range.

Swing and a miss. Swing and a miss.

And look how stupid you look, trying to undermine the wages of skilled labor.

Would you have done this had she paid 300 on plumbing? 300 on auto repair?

Suddenly the skilled labor of a hairstylist doesn't count?

I never said otherwise. It's just that such endeavors require less labor for the same output than in times past. Many mechanical systems require less maintenance because of improved materials & engineering, as well. When the factory closes down the people who supplied the consumables & kept it running lose their jobs just like all the rest.

The fact that the cost of her haircut has even been mentioned is insane. It's not even an issue in normal circumstances, never mind the situation we're currently in. Our house is on fire and people are criticizing one of the firefighters trying to put it out because they've got a nice watch. Meanwhile the neighboring fire department is either sat around drinking on the job, trying to tell you that it's debatable that the flames constitute a fire or are just tossing petrol bombs on the flames.

There are legitimate arguments for and against the policies she has proposed. Some are going to be unworkable, some will need modifying. That's what happens with broad policies/goals. They need a lot of work on the details to turn them from policies to actual legislation. AOC would also be happy to admit that and she's already demonstrated that she is happy to work with people to turn those policies into things. I'm more than happy to forgive some mistakes from someone who has shown they are willing to learn about the issues when they are pushing for dramatic improvements in government corruption and the environment. Which are two of the biggest problems facing the US right now.

She was willing to work with Ted Cruz for fucks sake. The guy is so slimy that just saying his name causes your mouth to fill with snake oil. She deserves credit for that alone.

Nope, at least not when it's "elite capitalism" as OP pointed out.

"I think it's so funny, a year ago, I was waiting tables in a restaurant and it was literally easier for me to become the youngest woman in American history elected to Congress than it is to pay off my student loan debt." - OCZ

Sure sounds like she was struggling to pay off that debt. Will you continue to be obtuse and argue semantics? It’s ok to admit when you’re wrong, at least that’s what a wise person once told me.

So time is a concept that is foreign to you or do you think going from a job making less than ~$100 to one where she makes $174k can have some sort of impact on her life and finances?

There was nothing "elite" about it. That's what a cut and color costs. That is what skilled labor costs. Middle class women everywhere pay that for a cut and color. Maybe as low as 200 in low rent areas of the country. A women's cut and color is time consuming and extremely skilled. What SHOULD 3+ hours of skilled labor and overhead cost???

And this is the cost of being a professional woman in the workplace. Hell, it's the cost of being a woman, period.

And computer geeks here earning 80+ an hour think hair stylists aren't skilled labor. OK.

Trump is done. The call for impeachment is growing and the GOP will throw him under the bus once it is advantageous to do so. Guiliani is positioned to go down hard. The judiciary continues to contain Trump.

To be fair this is probably the 475th time that Trump has done something that deserves him being dragged out of the White House, yet the Republican voters and the Republican party have consistently said it's OK. I agree that this is the closest he's come to getting what he's deserved and that the odds are greater than zero, but I'm not holding my breath. The judiciary is also under threat at the same time and can only do so much. The longer he sticks around the less effective it will be.

It still is. There is money to be made in the trades, but a lot of people fear having to lift heavy things.

You live in a society that denigrates and demeans 'tradesmen' and physical labour. We have more than a few that post here that exhibit that attitude.

But sure, it's laziness.

Hot? Really? She is the furthest thing from hot.

Just because she is younger than the average congressman and isn't a beached whale doesn't equate to hot.

But moreso she just does absolute nothing. The green new deal? Aside from being absolutely dumb dumb for thinking wind and solar will solve all of our life problems (It won't), it isn't a plan. It's like a kid's christmas wish list where he opens up a toy catalog and circles everything.

That isn't action. That isn't a plan. That isn't what a grown up and mature adult comes up with. That is a stupid child stomping their feet and crying "BUUUUUUUUUUT I WAAAAAAANT IT!!!"

That's it, keep the propaganda flowing.
