There was nothing "elite" about it. That's what a cut and color costs. That is what skilled labor costs. Middle class women everywhere pay that for a cut and color.

Brazilian women are really good at teaming up and doing stuff for each other. For example girl I dated made much of her clothing, she’d do the same for a woman who did her nails and another woman who did her hair. There was a definite barter going on.
I have no idea how much she spent on hair and nails but I doubt it was much money, I know it was more labor but even that was weird. She’d knock out clothing or fix or alter stuff for random people she knew all the time. She wasn’t even a seamstress, she was a secretary.
