4k Prices keep dropping.

The only thing missing is freesync.
Edit: The $400 24" samsung has it!

AOC's U2870VQE is an affordable 28-inch 4K monitor with 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD Resolution, four times the resolution of a Full HD display that takes delivering clear crisp images to the next level. The monitor also boasts 1ms (gray-to-gray) response time and 70,000,000:1 mega dynamic contrast ratio. This 4K monitor has a professional non-glare TN panel for that fast refresh.
Key Features

  • 28” 4K 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD Resolution
  • Fast 1ms response time for gaming applications and over 1 billion colors for rich details
  • VGA, Mini-DP, HDMI (MHL), DP connectivity
  • MHL-enabled HDMI to project smart device on to the big screen
  • Narrow border design with sleek hairline texture

Just need to be able to drive 4K for a reasonable price. While monitors are getting more and more affordable (at least 60Hz ones) cards are just getting ridiculous. Going up every year.

That's true, however from my experience I'd rather have settings on high and use 4k than max settings on 1080p (for now, the next gen may already increase them another notch etc. since the monitor will outlive a gpu, perhaps several). Personally I think a single high end card will do the job with a couple settings reduced.

That DPI is awesome. Of course I like the productivity side effect etc, so not 100% purely gaming benefits too.

The price rise is concerning too.

it's worth noting that on july 26 samsung is releasing their 24" PLS 4k monitor for $400, it's a bit smaller but imho a better deal for the pls alone

That 24" has freesync too!

$350-400 for 4k! Awesome to see some (official, beyond sales) price drops on new products.

They are getting cheaper rapidly, last year the "new" low was $600 (now the AOC is $350). Exciting times as a high DPI enthusiast.

Try running a 24" 1080p monitor at 4k. I don't think you will find the experience particularly pleasant. Seems like a waste of pixels at that size.

It depends, 28" is what I would consider my limit from experience or preferably 30"+ for the real estate to put documents side by side etc. but I think I'd like 24" with DPI scaling of 150-200% for windows and then have high resolution gaming.

Have you tried a 24" 4k monitor? (or any size for that matter out of curiosity?)

My only actual 4k experience so far has been looking at giant TVs at best buy running demo loops. I have used the 5k imac but that is even more overkill and I certainly wouldn't want to push that many pixels in games.

Unless you are seriously space constrained, I don't see any reason to get a 24" 4k over a similarly priced 27" 1440p, or even 2 24" 1080p monitors. With any game released in the past couple years the increased detail you get by running 4k, if you can even see it, will have to be paid for with lower settings/worse framerate

Ive had this monitor for about a month, and its nice. Depending on the game, I use either 4k or 2k, and use 2k for every day desktop use. Nice price on this.
