AOE III or AOE II?

I want to buy a copy of Age of Empires, but I can't decide if I want version 2 or 3. I played it a long time ago and don't remember which one I enjoyed more.

So which do you suggest? I just want to buy 1 for now. Do both have online capability?

Ya know, I just remembered, I don't think I ever played 3. What I'm thinking is AOE Gold Edition expansion, versus II. I know I liked 2 better. Should I stick with 2 or go with 3?

If you got a fairly new computer I'd get AOE3. The multiplayer is probably much more popular and better.

If you want a cheap game that's great for LANs and older computers, AOE2 is just as fun.

Stick with 2.......and get the Conquerers expansion pack. It was the most fun and balanced multiplayer RTS ever, IMO.

IMO, Total Anihiliation was. AOE II wasn't bad though

I'd go with III over II since III's multiplayer is way better and current. Also III looks quite a bit better and introduces a few neat things. The only reason I'd purchase II is if I was solely going to play single player (I've heard III's is bad, never tried it) or multiplayer skirmish against computer opponents and it was $10 or less.

i agree with duragezic but i will tell you something both are great but make sure you get the conquerors edition for aoe2. In aoe3, the graphics are quite amazing and the gameplay also especially when you blow your enemies with the falcon!!

So I decided to get II first. I got the Gold Edition which comes with the Conquerers Expansion. I looked up III and its not really the age I want to focus on. If they come out with an expansion pack that spans multiple ages that overlap I and II then I'll get that with III.

not sure how you played AOE3 "a long time ago" since it just came out a, what, 2 months ago?

i have aoe2 and played the demo of aoe3. aoe2 was much better imo.
