It doesnt look as good as i'd thought...and AA is almost needed for the game because even 10x7 doesnt look good. Yes. Even I might use AA for this game!

anyways, I'm having this problem: Whenever i recruit militiamen, and their time bar expires, the game freezes. weird. anyone else get this?

Nice HDR+Shadows

My fps, if I had to guess was between 35-45.

Yikes, I don't like the way that HDR looks. Looks especially bad on those windmill fans. Blows out the highlights way too much.

arrgh! HDR makes it look eleventy billion times worse!
I thought hdr didnt look all too good in that cathedreal SS, but the windmill looks like a freaking lightbulb!

they said that some of the higher-end graphics aren't in the demo

i was kind of under-impressed, it seemed a less cartoony warcraft 3

ran fine on a 6800 with 78.01

So I guess for those of us that own 6800/7800 GTX cards, this is one game we can't really brag about for having HDR support anymore since it looks so atrocious; it's more of a liability than a good thing in this case.

Personaly i do not see a difference in how it looks now and how it looked early? Not sure why everybody is saying it doesn't look as good as they thought. Tell me what doesn't look that good?

Also this is a demo.. i wonder if they will include Very High Detail and such for the options that are only High right now??

Also to note my system (listed in spec) runs this game very smooth.. I am impressed, the 6800NU that could lol. Not sure the fps as i rather not fool around with fraps. But no lag here with everything set to highest (even AA) and 1280x1024 res. My display driver are se tto application preference and using 77.77 drivers.

Again about people saying it doesn't look that good, remember all those screen shots posted by ES were probally the very best shots in hte game (like those water ones and the night time city with all those poeple).

I played it for a couple minutes. The graphics look pretty bad though and it turned me off to it. To dated looking.

Hate the interface....takes up way too much game terrain real estate. Almost as bad as Kohan 2.

Surely there will be a way to either shrink it or minimize it in the final version. After all, many of the gameplay movies and screenshots show no UI at all.

At least I hope it'll be shrinkable.

I've got bigger probs at the moment. Having never played any of the Age Of games before, I'm facing a bit of a learning curve. I just got rolled over by the computer. On easy.

One thing I hated was that I selected my group of musketeers and said to attack a group of enemies, they all stopped attacking once they killed the particular enemy I happened to click on. I really woulda preferred it if they just kept on attacking the rest of the folks throwing torches on my trading post.

I DL it and installed it fine on my AMD XP 2200+ w/ ATI 9800 Pro 128mb and ran fine on 10x7 with everything on high no AA though. Only thing that bugged me is that scrolling seemed buggy and the pointer sat lower than what is really targeted.

Those of you who do not like the game for its graphics ... please stay out of video-gaming and keep those big titles with your own standards of high-quality graphics for benchmarks.

On my side, I appreciate it a lot. Actually, I like it a lot. AOE III Demo shows exactly what you need to know. Is it the type of game you would buy ? If you don't want it, alright with me.

And I bet some of you saying the Demo's graphics turned you off will eventually get it via Peer-To-Peer programs to give it a "second try". Pfff.

Anyways ...

Age Of Empires III will be awesome. Its actual Demo gives a minimum, and that's appreciated.

The times are changing indeed.

I'm from those Atari, NES 8-Bit and Turbo-Graf-16 days, and I've followed the video-gaming evolution, and revolutions.

But I can still have fun with a game's content and features, besides its visual quality.

If you guys want top-notch graphics and superb game-play like that (and I mean top-end quality by your own very high requirements as it seems so), then please go work for Industrial Light & Magic and make some visual effects for future movies or something, but quit the video-gaming domain.

Stupid graphics evolutions is washing too many brains out there.

oh, almost forgot to state my feedback on the game:

i didnt look through this whole thread, but does anyone else find the scrolling horrible? whether with the mouse or the keyboard...

everyone already said units are too hard to distinguish and i agree

it kept locking up on me after five min or so in the short campaign, but the skirmish worked fine

i think that might be due to affinity or something but i didnt have time to set affinity and will try again tnite

the UI does take up a lot of space and there are so many things that i duno what they do at the moment...i guess that can be remedied later

all in all, it'll be a game i buy since aoe2 was the first game i got addicted to

hopefully it'll be muuuch better and less buggy of course
