Yes, from what I've seen the difference between Medium and High is just the water shaders (and reflex).

Doesnt FRAPS also affect your framerates when it records? Anyways as already figured out, it looks like even the best video cards at this time wont give you complete freedom. My rig plays the game fine with everything turned all the way up at 16X12 and I didnt notice any lag really. Pretty darn smooth until I get my 200 troops in a rolling raid blowing everything out of existence... Trying the game on medium difficulty right now because I dont really know the game or how hard the AI is and I am about the end of Act 1. Enjoy the game...

Your wife's computer has SLI EVGA 7800GTX KOs?
I bet she is a heavy gamer, right?
Are her KOs in pink as well?

ok - what is interesting is that when looking at your homecity, as in before you ever even launch the game, you get a pretty accurate idea of how many fps you will get in game.

The difference in shaders from medium to high, only seems to affect water. But it has a big effect on water. I took several screenshots of just random land locations and see no difference between medium and high shaders.

Just and FYI I guess.

nah at shader model very high, i get anywhere from 20-40fps, when i get my 20.1 dell, i'll drop down to high, you can see the difference between very high and high though, they seem to take a lot out

everything on high, you get 45+ fps

Yeah you have a 6800GT, I would imagine you have good gains on me the higher the settings, the more those gains would become apparent. I keep testing various settings, and really to play a whole game smoothly, I need to drop to medium settings on the shader and shadows, with Bloom and Water reflections disabled, and low AA. At those settings I can get 50FPS+ the majority of the time.

A guy over at AOTS has 4800 X2 with dual 7800GTX and gets 45FPS at start of the game with all settings maxed. That would drop into the 30's in some places I'm sure, what a beast of an RTS game, haha.

AOE3 is crap , it doesnt even look good and game play was to slow.

Compared to what? Show me an RTS that looks as good plz.

Play it online vs a decent player and tell me it's too slow, ROFL.

Rome Total War

Dawn of War. The pyrotechnics in that are downright incredible, and put AOE3 to shame.

The amount of firepower two landraiders, 3 predators and 4 heavy bolter squads puts out has not been seen in anything outside the arcade game Raiden hehe.

Dawn of War was no doubt good... but putting AOE3 to shame? No way. Completely different setttings, and AOE3 pulls through much better imo.

Has anyone with SLI setup tried this game yet? I'd like to know if this game benefits from SLI.

Thanks.

Thank you toattett. I think I'm gonna get another GTX. Well, the game asides, my inner "geek-ieness" has been calling on the SLI anyway.

LOL. I think that was about 60% of the reason I went SLI. The other 40% was that the 6800 Ultras were non-existant for purchase and the 6800GT's were around $650 a piece! If I didn't have to fix the wife's car, I'd have picked up a couple 7800GTX by now.

[RANT] Friggin' Honda ('95 Accord). What car company bolts the brake rotors onto the wheel bearing housing? By the time you get the rotor off, you've pounded the joints to sh1t, need an alignment, and have dismantled the entire front-end of the car. [/RANT]

I finally got another card and running SLI now. The SLI efficiency in this game is just about as good as it can get. Minimum frame rate jumped around 80%. When I get a chance I will bench single vs SLI and post here. So far, this game is another poster child of SLI.

The thing I'd upgrade frankly is that 262,000 color monitor (6bit). Also, why the HELL do you have a 550 watt PSU for a small system like that?

Monitor was something I wasn't sure about, but thought it was better to go cheap now and wait for prices to normalise. LCD is still uber expensive in Aussie. Links to 8 bit monitors?

PSU.....I have alot of room for upgrade with my SLI motherboard, wasn't sure what direction I was going to go. 550W covered all the bases .
