my sister uses AOL to talk to her friends and i've been footing the damn bill. I already have cable so i hate paying an extra $15/mth just for her AOL. so i called today to cancel when they told me they reduced the price to $7.95. I guess i can live with that.. So all you Bring Your Own Service people out there, give aol a call. they'll reduce it for you. the tech even gave me 3 free months.

edit: here's the phone number: Billing Services: (800) 827-6364

So, your sister was subscribing to AOHell for the pupose of using Instant Messenger to talk to her friends? If this is the case, Instant Messenger is free to use - regardless of which ISP you subscribe to. If she's just using Instant Messenger, it's time to call AOHell back and dump the service completely because it would no longer be needed.

This sister could be using IM, email, or some chat room or whatever. While I'll agree, plenty of better alternatives, have you ever tried to get a diehard AOLer to switch? Maybe you have and succeeded, in which case, I commend thee. Whereas it's been my experience that I could more easily convince a kkk grand wizard to join the NAACP. Love it or hate it, some people really do *gasp* like the combined interface of AOL, and don't want to use anything else.

Personally I hate it but oh well

my dad, sis, little bro love AOHell. i can't stand it. but, even though i have dsl at home for them, they will not get rid of it.

i compare it to taking the bottle away from an alkaholik

cooooLEOs. if youre planning on calling them, or you've already called them, call them back and tell them to send you a copy of AOL 8.0. its extremely pretty. lots of new features!!!

oh yeah, the guy i talked too, he said i get 4 hours now instead of the usual 2 hours on using their "service" (just in case my dsl goes down or whatever

The medical community would consider that brainwashing at its finest *grin*. AOL blasts so many commercials, ads, trial CDs at the human populace, they can't help but to brainwash a few million people. Other than the mass travel across the US or to other countries, where they have a local number, there is really NO compelling reason to pay a penny for AOL. Better money spent elsewhere...

Yeah....there's nothing like signing up new people to our ISP that have been with AOL for 2 or more years. They get on a pure internet connection and they're lost! They call back wanted to cancel because "It's not like AOL....where's all the pretty icons and chat rooms and stuff???"

Lets face it people, there are two types of people out there. Those who buy a Dell dude! and subscribe to AOL, and those who build their own boxes and also realize the waste AOL is.

I agree. $8 is still a waste of money. I'd rather go to Taco Bell and get a bunch of their new Carne Asada tacos... now thats a hot deal

My cousin has had AOL for like 8 years now... He now still pays the $9.99 BYOA just to keep his and his whole family AOL email account.

So sometimes a decent, add-free, plenty of space email account may cost you money too.

I'm running at 90% of my Yahoo email.

I'd rather just have the girl in the commercial.

Dude, get YahooPOPs (if u dont have it already)

it helps you set up a scenario where you can download
you emails from Yahoo (who now charges for using
their pop server) to your favorite email client
ie Outlook/xpress/ netscape messenger etc

plus this is the link to get it link

Better drill holes in those CDs. Who knows what kind of polishing machines AOL has....

AOL new user signup is at an all time low... They are starting to realize that not offering high speed internet service is going to hurt them in the long run... I'm sorry, but AOL charges like 2-3 times more than a normal ISP, gives you NO features you can't find on the internet, AND spams your email and your screen with all their ads not to mention selling your personal information to make even more money... All of this on top of a crappy dial-up connection and I really can't figure out why anyone likes AOL...

I'm sure this is a hot deal for people, but imo the reason they lowered their rates is because they are desperately trying to hold on to those weird enough who enjoy their service since new users are realizing that AOL is not for them...
