Aopen CRW1232A Troubles

I recently purchased a Aopen CRW1232A drive. I have used the
drive to make quite a few music CDs and they seemed to have turned
out. However, I recently went to do a CD Copy. When I did this, I
had the speed set at 8x. Upon starting the burn, my computer fills up
the first graph bar in Nero. Once it reaches this point, the burn fails
and returns the error: "Medium speed error" Even when I try burning
at 4x the same error results. How can I avoid this error? I bought a
burner so I can burn CDs, not cook them Any help would be very
appreciated!!

Have you updated all of your software? Nero has recently posted an update to both the burning software and the packet writing software. You should be up to v 5.5.2x of Nero. See if that doesn't help. In the meanwhile, just make sure to have the minimum of stuff running in the background. In particular, disable your antivirus and, MS Office's FastFind (everyone should disable that PERMANENTLY) and anything else that may try to access or modify the disk while you're burning. Good luck.

I am using the version that came with my burner. 5.0.3.8 or something. Do you think the update would do the trick? The burner doesn't even write to the CD. Even after supposedly cooking the CD, it still turns out alright and says it is blank just like it was before. Could it be a bad burner? Or maybe the drive doesn't like the media I am using? Anything else?

I don't mean to pry, but what exactly are you trying to copy? I know that some CD's have "bad bits" interspersed on the CD to prevent copying from working properly. Only the CloneCD software and a compatible burner will work on these CDs, from what I've read...

I have tried copying a multitude of disks. This includes audio CDs, games, mobo driver CD, and even a homemade data CD. All the tested CDs have worked before.

Actually I am planning to go for the same AOpen 1232A.... I am planning for that as it has the Just link technology same as Plextors Burn proof one.. (That's what i think by looking out the description of the functions.. if i am wrong please correct..have posted the same in different thread..no replies so far..)...
So any advise on this...so that i can decide to go for plextor even though it's around 80 U$ more... I shouldn't feel back later...because of poor performance of Aopen...

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated...

I don't think I understand: if all the tested CDs have worked before, what CD are you trying to copy now that won't work?

What I'm trying to figure out is whether EVERY CD you copy at 8X has this problem.

I am sorry for hte confusion. By saying they worked before, I mean they worked on another comp with a different burner.

I hear sometimes it has burning errors if dma isn't enabled. Maybe it's that?
