Folks,
I just put together my first SFF rig. It's an AOpen EZ18 with these components - 2400+ T-Bred running at default FSB and voltage, GF FX 5900 AGP 8X video card, 512MB of Centon PC2700 DDR RAM, and a Seagate 40GB HDD. I'm using the stock HSF unit that shipped with it and have been running the SilentTek utility to control fan speed. I removed the thermal pad on the HSF unit, cleaned the surface with acetone and applied Geil copper thermal paste. Initially the cpu ran at 46C-48C at an idle. I then tried to run Doom 3 and the temp jumped to 63C and now won't drop below 53C at idle! Is there something I may have missed or should I try a different HSF unit and not worry about the noise? Have I fried this CPU? This really concerns me since my rig at home (I'm working on the road right now) is running a Barton core 2500+ at 32C-34C at idle and 48C under full load. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks.
