Crazy price 512 pc2700 $63.00 & 512 pc2100 $60.00 Wow!!! My friend bought 512 pc2700 & the performance is as same as Kingston.

I've been eying those Apacer modules too. But I didn't know if their reputation was any good.

Inthe last 10 years or so of tinkering and fixing computers for friends and relative, the only two memory modules I have ever seen die were both Apacer brand. Take it for what it's worth, just one man's narrow experience.

Out of all the memory that I have bought, the only one that I had any problems with was Apacer. For some reason, it would only work in some computers, but not others. It gave me a ton of headaches at first until I figured out that it was the memory. So, take it for what it is worth, but now I stay away from Apacer. (this was pc133 memory being used in computers that were taking pc133)

My friend is a computer tech guy. He already tests the memory & he can not believe that Apacer performance is good as Kingston.

always ymmv... haven't tried this stuff, but my amusing experience with apacer 133 is that it was the only memory out of my bag 'o dimms that would boot up in the first k7s5a i bought a few years back... and it's still plugging away with a little oc on a tbird 1200...

When I worked in the Strawberry business we had two labels that we used. One was for grade 'A' berries that were really nice, and the other label was for the ones that were not so nice (we had to sell them somewhere). Not that I can say anything about the quality of Apacer or AOpen RAM, but this can be the same in technology as well as agriculture.

I don't know if you recall, but about 3 years ago Apacer memory was all the rage for the price/performance factor. I don't remember the dates exactly but I remember seeing the hot deals on here and people mentioning them over at Agn3d back when I built my first Athlon with a Goldfinger.

I remember, since I picked some up.
The desired sticks were Apacer with Infineon Chips.
It's amazing that today some people have problems getting modern memory to run at 166MHz.
Back then, years ago when this Apacer was the HOT Deal, those early sticks easily hit 150MHz in KT133 systems.
Based on how well they worked then, I would buy these in a minute.
Apacer was were the stick of choice for power users.
Building PC's for more than 15 years, and never saw one of 100's of Apacer systems I've sold have a memory problem

Or do a seach of the Anandtech forums archives for Apacer, and see how well they performed in the past.

This may or may not be Crucial...the product description only says it has "Micron" memory. Big difference. The chips are only part of the equation. There are other vital pieces to making quality memory, manufacturing process, PCB, testing, etc.

I know because I made a similar purchase a couple of years for memory touted as "highest quality Micron" PC133 memory. Well the chips were Micron but that was the only thing that was high quality. The memory was barely stable at CL3 and forget about bumping up the FSB. If you can get name brand memory for only 15-20% more per stick...don't even think twice.

Re the Apacer issue, I've been eyeing this stuff myself. I purchased some Apacer RAM 3 years back (PC133 also) and never had any problems. If I were to do something on the cheap, I would be more inclined to purchase the Apacer with the Infineon chips at Newegg than the generic "Micron" listed on CnetPC...that's just my two cents.
