Apache vs. IIS

I've seen that many sites out there use Apache web server and some use IIS. Can anyone list the differences (advantages/disadvantages) between the two programs or point me to a place where these two HTTP daemons are compared? I tried setting up Apache in Windows but I can't seem to find an installation file. Is it only for Linux/Unix systems? Thanks in advance for any information.

First of all, to install it you need to find a windows installer at http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/binaries/win32/apache_2.0.40-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi
Have you tried searching at google for comparisons between Apache and IIS?

LOL...I was looking for some sort of installer. Thanks for linking that. I'll try Google. I was hoping someone could give me the gist.

Apache scales better / handles more traffic / is much much more secure.

IIS integrates well with other MS technologies and lets developers use their Windows programming experience to create components for it. ASP is actually a good scripting language though puts a load on the server.

ASP.Net and .Net server are supposed to cure cancer and get kitties down from trees safely, but MS currently makes it a violation of your EULA to publish any benchmarks so I'd guess the performance is on the slow side.

Unless you're dependant on MS technology like ASP go for Apache. You still can go for either Apache 1.3 or Apache 2.0, both are fine if you're just looking for a "plain" web server, while Apache 1.3 has better support for add-on modules.

ASP doesn't require IIS... nor does it require a Windows Platform.

Go Apache.
