We need a new homstead act - government is hoarding way too much land driving prices though the roof for our ever expanding population.

Those not familiar with homestead search google - But basically implented by President Lincoln and existed for over 100 years until democrats in the 70's discontinued the program.

..rent control has been a deterent to rental realestate investment so the remaining rentals have a low turnover. Supply and demand is at work here.

Heh. Problem-reaction-solution is the favorite tactic of the authoritarian leftists. It's simple economics that when supply is artificially reduced (i.e. through limiting housing development and increased government hoarding of land), then demand will drive up prices.

And homesteading existing before Lincoln's bill. The Oregon Territory had the Donation Land Claim Act of 1850, which the Homestead Act was later modeled after.
