About 6 guys from my WoW guild took the dive and tried APB. Two of them seem to really like it, the others think it's generally fun but with a lot of issues. And all of them agree that it's only fun when other friends are online with them - solo play SUCKS.
In fact because of these people's varying schedules, a few of them have already given up on the game because it's zero fun when no one else is online.
Well Realtime Worlds just announced today that they are pulling the plug on APB. This has to be the fastest "Launch to shutdown" for an MMO ever. Sucks people are losing their jobs but maybe we'll see less "OMG LETS MAKE AN MMO AND GET RICH" type games that too many studios are making.
Not going to happen, MMOs in general can't survive off just an initial purchase cost. What I'd like to see is more games adopting a model similar to EVE Online's for payment. The client and all upgrades are free you just pay the monthly fee per account.
