Make sure you add something cheap to get penny shipping, otherwise it cost $15 or more to ship.

Thanks! I've been looking for a nice APC unit for a long while. This thing fit the bill and my needs. It has AVR, which is a VERY nice thing to have, according to my electronics buddies. I guess it keeps the flow of electricity to an extreme constant to provide exactly the power you need at all times to ensure the safety of your electronics.

Considering I don't have a CompUSA in my state, will the tax on the online bill be removed on my final bill?

CompUSA has had a few high $$ rebates on this item.. does anyone recall how this price compares? (I thought for a while it was $199 with a $100 MIR)

I've got one of these. They are very nice. What I really need to find is the extra external battery pack for it.

3 PCs and 3 LCDs are plugged into it without issue. Gives me about 7 minutes backup at that load. Enough time to auto shut down the important box.

The extra battery would give me loads of time though on a single box.

You know, you can take your existing APC unit to a store like Batteries Plus in my city and they can replace the battery unit for $20+ or so. This way you don't have to buy a whole new unit.

VooDooAddict, this might be what you're looking for.

Any ideas on the tax? Is it legal for them to charge me tax even though they have no store in my state? This is the first time I've ever ordered anything on the Internet and have been charged tax, minus my Dell machine, but that was only $3 or so on a $1640 order...lol, no idea how that one went through, but anyways, any input on my answer?

XS1500 IS BX1500, the BackUPS XS 1500

I picked up two of these a little while back at CUSA for $100AR, just got the rebates the other day. AWESOME UPS'es.

I can't find the model number listed on APC's site. CompUSA says the unit is a BX1500, but I come up with nothing when I search APC's site. The closest thing I find is this.

Exactly what did I buy!?

APC model # are confusing, they have RX, RS, BX, I think they are all the same. I only buy APC, i used work at a place with > 100 computers, and the building was hit by lightning, it took out 3 computers, and these 3 were the ones with a non-APC surge protector. Coincidence? who knows. This BX line has voltage regulator too.

These are super backups. I got my 1500 for xmas but got in on the 100.00 price from Comp USA after rebate. Got the rebate in 5 weeks .

If you need a backup for a expensive system do not hesitate as this is a great backup and the company is super to deal with.

The norm for this unit is around 199-230 depending on where you get it, but I thought this was a pretty good deal just for the fact Im not a big fan of MIR, Instant Savings is my game.

Found this in the APC knowledgebase:

Question
This document will compare the differences between Back-UPS RS (Models BR1000 and BR1500) with the Back-UPS XS (Models BX1000 and BX1500)

Answer
There are basically 2 differences between the Back-UPS RS and the Back-UPS XS models besides their names.

1. The Back-UPS RS models have both 1-line 2-wire phone/fax/modem data-line protection and 10/100base-T ethernet protection, where as the Back-UPS XS models only has 1-line 2-wire phone/fax/modem protection.

2. The Back-UPS RS models have both Boost* and Trim** as features of Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), where as the Back-UPS XS only has Boost. When the input voltage increases above the high transfer point of a Back-UPS XS model it will only go to battery.

*AVR Boost: The UPS is compensating for a low utility voltage. While the UPS can run in this mode indefinitely without any negative impact on the UPS, the circuit should be checked by a qualified electrician if the utility voltage is consistently low.

**AVR Trim: The UPS is compensating for a high utility voltage. While the UPS can run in this mode indefinitely without any negative impact on the UPS, the circuit should be checked by a qualified electrician if the utility voltage is consistently high.

I just got mine a few minutes ago and it is a BX1500 model. It has a data/network port on the back like you had mentioned.

Now I am confused. I thought the BX1500 model was NOT supposed to have the network ports, only the phone/fax ports.

The BR1500 is supposed to have the network ports.

Which one is it?

If it is the same one as the $100 rebate version a few months back, then it does not have the network ports. It does however have the usb connection for communicating with your systems to automaticly shut them down when the battery is running low...

Sorry! It's the XS. I didn't know right away...yeah, it has the single ethernet port for USB connectivity with the computer.

BTW, it never said anything about charging it for 24 hours before use...just had to connect the battery pack inside.

Wierd...maybe I skipped that, but I'm pretty sure I didn't see that. The software said it was at 100% charge when I plugged it in and started using it.

:: shrugs ::

Apreciate the link to the external battery.

Unfortunetly it's not an issue of me finding the unit to buy ... but justifying the money to spend on it.

... ...esp since I have a psp ariving today. (I spend about 2 hours on a comuter train daily ... I think it was an acceptable purchase for me. )
