well, raging, you have been here 3 months... some have earned the senior status in 3 months, and made posts that truely contribute to this forum (i.e. bigbigsavings), but in any event Linux is just like many others that feel the "senior member" status really means something. So he makes posts that have no true content! for example, some senior member said this:
<<
Makes me sick to see junior members flame at other people like they've been here for years
>>

But I guess some are shooting for "super senior member" that only requires 1000 pointless posts, keep truckin' guys...

NOT MEANT TO INSULT THE TRUE SENIOR MEMBERS, but rather the people that flood the boards with stupid crap
kinda like my post here!

LinuxBox2K, in what way does your thread crapping help in any way with this hot deal? I may be wrong, but I don't think (misguided) belittling another member is important here at all.

Of course now I'm a thread crapper too for replying.

Well, tomorrow I will use Peetah's receipt and go see what i can get from my local Walmarts.. but I have low confidence that it will work. Just to give it a shot I guess..

however, I did try this pricematch thing before at walmart, with target being the place that walmart called, during the adam sandler fiasco on dvdtalk.com, and they wouldn't let me do it.., even over 40 bucks.. well I'll let you guys know tomorrow..

So I can't spell.......

I have been to five random Wal-Marts mostly Northside... I just stop mostly late at night...I don't to far out of my way..

By the way 4 of the 5 have both products... the prices are different at all four stores.....

hold on while I verify my spelling....

Curly - if you look at the majority of Linux's posts you'd realize he has no regard for the rules of this forum whatsoever - he doesn't seem to give a flying dip doodly. Half of his posts have been locked.

That and if you look at half the posts locked in any forum its by new members who don't care or have regards to the rules. I read the rules when I got here (I really did ) and I try to follow them the best I can. There are other junior, member, senior, and even elite members who flame juniors, what makes me different? I singled Linux out for a reason - you singled me out for none.

Hey, for people who have been able to use Peetah's receipt to get the UPS's, how were you guys able to cajole the Wal-Mart people into it? Who do you talk to? What do you tell them? In what order? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hmph is all I have to say. I could stand to prove I "have a pair." Went in, scan in hand, and should have realized now probably wasn't the best time. In front of me in line was someone who couldn't speak english trying to pass off what looked to be a scrap of paper towel as a personal check. The store is mega busy and we're waiting like 5 minutes for a manager to show. I stepped forward and asked the csr about the clearance price of the 500 under my arm. He said I should probably head to the customer service desk up front. Blah. I headed up there and the woman (with the look of stale death in her eyes) told me that prices are much, much different depending on the area. Ok, I was expecting that, but didn't have time, nor the gumption to quibble. I took the 500 back and the csr was there. I asked him if he had any clue as to when things might be marked down further. He didn't have the best of ideas, but he initially thought I wouldn't have a hard time getting them to match the price since many of the "closeout pricings" come from the home office in Oklahoma City. To make a long story short, I'm planning on heading back, this time to speak with a dept or store manager. On the plus side of the deal for them, they have less red-tagged merchandise (with some sort of low value stigma attached to it) on hand as well as a happy customer. So what if they're out a few extra $$ .

As a relative newbie to the realm of bartering/pricematching I'd love to hear any tips on what's kosher. I can put myself in the shoes of the csr/manager and imagine what their rationale might be, but hearing it straight from the horses mouth never hurts. (Unless there is projectile vomitting involved). Successful or no, what sort of tactics, for lack of a better word, have you entailed with the Wal-Mart folks and these here UPS's?

My hint for the day: To save face, pretend you speak English very badly and smile a lot. It'll turn the situation around on a pompous csr/meter-maid/stick-in-the-mud in a hurry. I'll be happy to provide a lesson in .MP3 format.

Doh, color me rude. Meant to say thanks for the heads-up on the potentially great deal as well as for the great receipt scan. (Now if I can only get to use it . . .)

Today I went to the two near me in Maryland. One didn't have any APC UPSs. The other had 2 Office 280's for $35. The boxes were in horrible condition but I bought both. Thanks a LOT for the tip.

Okay, went to 4 Wal-Marts in the Pittsburgh area.

#1&2 nothing at all

#3 Had the 500 for $100, not too great. Asked if they could match the price and they said "no".

#4 Last stop at this Wal-Mart, they had something similar to the 200, and it was priced at $70. I attempted to get them to lower the price, but they wouldn't budge. At first they were kinda nice.. Then, since it was $70, I figured that I should go ahead and get 'em because $70 is still a good deal. Anyhoo, I go back to ge the lady that I originally talked to and we went back to Electronics to get it. On the way there, she was whispering something to another manager, and I have a feeling they though I was trying to rip the company off. It's what I would rate poor customer service, to actually whisper stuff behind a person. And, little did they know that I worked for Wal-Mart. D'oh.

Anyway, that's just the first part. They had 2 at $70, so I thought I would go ahead and get both of them. When I take them to the front register, they ring up at $90 (!!!). I questioned it, and they said they could only give one of them to me at $70 because the second one had part of the price tag ripped off. I ended up not getting either of them because I was tired of messing with it at that point.

So, after all of my troubles, I'm going to try store #1 again. It's the Wal-Mart I work at, and hopefully the managers will believe me, or possibly slice the price a little more, if they even have them in stock, which I'm pretty sure they don't.

I think I'll stop on the way to work everyday, walk back to the electronics section, pick up a 500, take it to the counter and ask them to ring it up. After 37 days of this, I'm hoping they'll cave and give me the mega-low clearance price. "I shall O-ver-CUH-uh-uhm!"

I'm assuming that Wal-Mart is either dumping "this year's model" of the UPS or they're going to the Belkin UPS products. In any case, why can't they just understand that I'm here to help. I can make the pain go away.

Heh.

Damn.. I went to the one in Orland Park, IL, and they had 8 500's marked down from $149 to $129. I will walk back tomorrow with the scans and see what they can do. It won't hurt to try!

Thanks again

Small update:

Went by the wal-mart a couple blocks from my house. Played fairly ignorant and buddy-buddy. Explained a friend of mine back-east (Ok, so he doesn't know I'm his friend yet ) had bought a couple of these UPS's on clearance for $50 and that I had a copy of his receipt. She didn't realize at first that they were on clearance at this store. As soon as she did, a lightbulb shot up over her head. "That must mean that they are not going to carry them anymore". (Teeth... clenching.... must... dopeslap...) me--> "Oh, yeah, that would make sense, good thinking." Anyways, she just remembered that they were doing inventory tomorrow (Saturday) and they might mark them down a bit more ($100 and $80 for both models) then. We talked (yeah, I've made a new life-long friend. Her name is Lois. *cough*) about how they wouldn't want to keep clearance items on the shelves for too long. It's bad ju-ju. She also gave me the name of the electronics manager and the time to catch her when in the best mood. She doesn't work the weekends so I'll walk over a couple times tomorrow and Sunday then get all geared up for my visit with the manager. I might even take a shower for it. Heck, if I can get a good price, I'll be spending a hefty wad of cashola.

Some tips I might offer:

1) Pick a time when the store isn't crawling, or at least approach someone who works there and ask them. Make sure you're sensitive to whether they're busy or not. The more people on your side, the better. Nobody wants to give a deal to an annoying little hunk of stupid. (There is an argument that, if the store is busy, the manager will do just about anything, including big mark-downs, to just get you out of their face. I wouldn't poo-poo that approach, but it just don't seem too neighborly.)

2) I can't remember what 2 was going to be, but I assure you, it was brilliant.

Peetah, any commentary from you on the talks with the managers?

Tried here in Atlanta after work today. No dice. I got the line about different markets and different priorities at different stores, blah, blah, blah. I'll keep watching the price though since it might drop again.

Andrew,
They had one at the Snellville store for $40 (500va). It sat around for a few days then when I finally decided to get it of course it was gone. (Didn't need it anyway)
I wish all the store clearance prices were on one database and the individual stores didn't have an option!
