There are far too many brands, so just pick up a Consumers Report guide.
The guide is fairly accurate if you look at service end only.
My personal preference has always been Sony and JVC for high end.
Low end, only Sharp rates consideration, with excellent quality.
Purest crap is RCA/GE/Proscan, Zenith, and non-Japanese made sets.
We stopped fixing Zenith's about a year ago due too poor factory replacement parts.
RCA/GE make up 60% of all repairs done. Without them, I would need a new job.
And if the repair rate is this great, think about how many don't get them fixed!
Pretty much all other brands fall in between Purest crap list and low end (Sharp).
Strangely, Toshiba always rates high at Consumer Reports, but they come right
after the above crap sets for most repaired. Ton's of easily fixable problems.
