i bought one of these before, it worked well for about an hour, then stopped reading CDs or even DVDs, so i took it back and got another one, this one was dead as soon as i plugged it in, so then i got a pioneer 343 instead, which has worked well with everything, even though it isnt 3 discs.

I bought this 2 weeks ago for 130 I will be getting a price check for 99. I love this dvd player it plays svcd's great put them all in at once that way I dont have to get up and change it.

Got mine on Thursday. My 2nd Apex. For $100 is a great unit, holds 3 dvd's or cdr's, my picture of a SVCD CDR I burned was great! I know others have had trouble, but my experience has been only good.

I paid $149 for mine around Christmas time. Haven't had any problems with it. Plays DVD's and VCD's just fine. This was the fourth Apex DVD player I've bought. Can't beat the price! This one displays Jpeg photos. Wish I had gotten one for my parents so I could send them CD's with photos

I have one of these units that is dedicated to SVCD playback and I really like it.
It is capable of playing XSVCD's all the way to 5500Kbps way above anything else I know of.
The only thing I don't like is the video plays a little dark compared to other players.
I make my own XSVCD's so I just increase the contrast and bright during the encode.

Also this unit is being discontinued. A new unit the 5151 is coming out any day now.
It will be a 5 disc changer based on the same internal electronics.
If I had known when I bought mine I think I would have held off.

For less then $100 this player is a steal if you get one that works. Apex is known for quality issues.

i got this thursday too, good find, i haggled the guy down cuase they didn't have the ad 1500 that sears was offering for less...

after tax + a 3 year warrenty ($30) = $125.

These are fine units, especially for the price. I'm still using my venerable AD-703 I bought early last year for $195. It doesn't like DVDs much anymore, but plays my VCD/SVCD/XSVCD/MP3 discs flawlessly. It is also region-free and macrovision disabled. Can't complain

The 5-disc Apex unit looks enticing. Would be perfect for those long movies I have on SVCD

Compusa had a big pile of 1500's, and they are hackable. $69

I bought one for $130 in January, and I have no complaints at all, it's been rock solid for SVCD and DVD playback. FredFlintstone, the changer is mostly for people who watch SVCD's, because they're usually 2 or 3 CD's long, but it's also nice for DVD's. I can load all 3 Fawlty Towers DVD's in and watch whichever eps I want to see without getting up.
