Can anybody recommend a good deal on a set of speakers to go with that unit?

I guees I am not speaking of 5.1 (that would be too expensive for me). Would that be some kind of "computer speakers" and are there any keywords I should look for to make sure I can hook them up to the player.

Thanks.

I purchased one on Sunday. Set it up. No disk. Tried another disk ... no disk. Called ChumpUSA sold-out, reserve for replacement sold-out. (They had a 40% reserve for replacement and they were all gone on Sunday.) This unit seems to have a very high failure rate, or ChumpUSA is selling the reserves for replacement and screwing both the customers and Apex. No replacement, no rain-check just too bad, here take your in-store credit for your cash purchase, or we will mail you a check in 10 - 14 days.

If it had worked it appeares to have much higher fit and finish than any of the other Apex units I have seen and the hack is sooo simple, but it does no good if the player doesn't play in the first place.

I went to my local CompUSA and they of course were out. I was on the road today and stopped at a different store, again empty shelves, but on the way out they had this display for a Lasonic-1000 with the same sales sign over it. So, I asked, is this being subbed for the APEX, "yes sir." Now I've heard of Apex, I have not heard of Lasonic. They may be one in the same for all I know, but the box says made in Taiwan and looks pretty cheap, though it is Silver. I am debating oppening it up or bringing it back. Any thoughts on this one, or have you heard of Lasonic before?????

Thanks a lot Yoshi2000,
Unfortunately, I upgraded the dvd drive's firmware and the dvd player's firmware did not solve my skip problem.

Burned the first CD twice Hiteker.bin and placed it on the Root Directory. Burned as DISK, no sessions. ISO 9660. CD ROM . and it wont read in the Apex?

I am using a Mac G4 and Toast, and have had no trouble in the past using it to upgrade various electronic components.

Anyone figure whats up?, I just tried a CD and it will play and audio cd.

I beleive that I have all the options set correctly.

Thanks.

Here are some things I would try...

[*]Make sure that your disc is closed (I'm not sure about Toast, but I think in Nero, there is a difference between "No Multisession" and "Disc at once" modes.
[*]Make sure that your file name system is not Joilet, but the old 8.3 standard
[*]If all else fails, add a dummy file (e.g. copy an MPG onto the CD as well). It may help the disc spin up.

Having loads of troubles with this 3201. I bought two at compusa. Both play CDs. Both only say LOADING when trying to play DVD's. I tried to make my HITEKER.bin cd using my mac. ISO 9660. CD. , but it says NO DISK...

Bad start. Hard to get on the band wagon, when it doesnt even play DVD out of the box. Might have to pug in the 600a again...

Thanks, for any help. Both machines had the same 3201 V1-21 LT17
Was on the very first step, with a backup machine, and it wont even work... Maybe I will buyone at sears, and see if it works the same way, as an experiment.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Can this unit play PAL discs on an NTSC set? Is that possible or is there some other conversion that needs to go on? I know this unit plays both PAL and NTSC discs.

if your player works or doesnt post your firm ware edition here.. also be sure to mention any specific problems. this will help us in identifying good vs. bad firmware

mines as follows:
v1_43 LT16
number outside the box next to the umbrella 16
power s/w says on off

problems:
none so far.
well maybe doesnt recognize picture cds

tests:
played pal vcds on ntsc tv,multi layerd dvd, mp3 with out a problem
disbled MV and was able to view thro a vcr
tested a 3 hr movie to check over heating under poor ventilation. result : no problems

Microman,
make sure you set filesystem as CD-ROM mode 1, NOT CD-ROM XA. And don't forget to use correct volume label.

The unit I got has player firmware 1.43, drive firmwire LT14. I did not touch the player firmware since the latest available upgrade is 1.42 (strange, isn't it?). Tried to save CDR by using CDRW for drive firmware upgrade--won't work (CD-ROM mode 1; 8.3 filesystem; "disk-at-once"). Burned CDR with the same settings--worked as advertized.

I like this unit--better image quality than my previous 500W. Cannot say anything about skipping--tested with only 1 DVD so far (worked OK). Why firmwire upgrade? Why not?

By the way, for all the people who want to view jpgs or picture CDs. Just make a VCD in Nero and drag over all of your jpgs and burn it. You can set the view time of each picture, and view it like a slide show. Works great!!

UPDATE
I opened the Lasonic Delta-1000, was pleasently surprised.
I tried burning, MY FIRST, VCD w/ Nero. I put it in my Sony DVP-360 wich does not like cd-rs and it didn't work, it does work no problem in the Lasonic. It was a cheap kensiko 16x cd-r burned at 24x on an Acer. The controls are so so. The picture is also ok, but that is with composite, there is also component and s video. No optical, just digital out and R/L stereo. It works through a VCR, so you can dub to VCR and I believe play through a coax if you have a tv without all the nice plugs and inputs, haven't tried coax, but it should worlk like with a playstation. There is also a hack for this one, I linked it earlier, not into the regional stuff, but I guess its available. Has Kareoke, but no mic jack?? Is on the Compusa website, but is for 99.99, I bet if you call they will give it to you. They should also be hitting the stores, this is a new sku, so deal is alive again!! Maybe??

Just called the rebate center, they confirmed that the sku for the Lasonic was also being offered as a $30.00 rebate.

great playa!!

got one on suday at 11am and it was the last one there then!

- played a NTSC DVd without a single glitch.
- put in a VCD (not home made, i think vcd 2.0) and played perfectely.
- put in some mode-2, XA cd-r disks full of folders of mp3s and even they played perfectly
- put in audio cds and they played flawlessly.
- used optical out to my aiwa 5.1 dolby digital decoder stereo system and the sound was just awesome with the dvd and even otherwise!

all in all, a super value for the price so far.

FYI.. you don't need to unlock anything. Simply enter 8421 on the remote while the disc tray is open to access the menu.
