Apex 3201 DVD player $59 AR and free LOTR at Compusa

Stoped at compusa while going to computer show and found the apex 3201
dvd player for $79 with a $20 rebate and they were giving away a copy
of LOTR with any DVD player that was advertised in flyer.

On top of a pile of the Apex's was a sign saying you get LOTR free with
purchase, also a $20 Rebate available.

The player does do VCD and SVCD, do not know if hacakable yet

I know some of you don't like CUSA rebates but i haven't had any problems.

I saw the other threads but this was a cusa in monroville, pa

they had about 10 to 12 stacked by the door, all were 3201's

The 3201 is totally hackable and quite easily done I may add. A cool player. Follow this link-

I had the Apex 3201 for a couple of weeks, before I returned it for a better player. It can be made region-free and macrovision-free, however there are a significant number of DVD's on which it freezes at the layer change. In addition, at certain chapter changes on the disc, it will pop up the "Play" on-screen display, which can be annoying.

Please see the 3201 forum here for a description of all these problems. This is an older model that the Apex 1500 actually, does not seem very well made, has poor menus, and does not play every DVD. Just an FYI.

Dang, I bought an AD-1500 at my CompUSA, I would much rather have an AD-3201. The 3201 may have it's problems, but it plays my Pinnacle Express burnt SVCD's flawlessly including FF and Rewind. The AD-1500 has audio problems and will not FF and Rewind the same discs. I guess the 1500 is not the schiz people make it out to be.

I went to the Compusa in Princeton, NJ all they have is AD1500 I am interested in 3201 has anyone seen in any Compusa in NJ

what im looking for now is this rebate mentioned.

Got the 1500 model. Impressive for $60 and the hack is easy. Throw the LOTR DVD and the price is irresistable. Makes for two very nice presents, or the perfect addition to your second system. I will say not to listen to the complainers about this model and buy it. If you watch SVCD's, or VCD's this system works. If you watch DVD's from different regions the hack works. The Macrovision can be disabled so you can copy the DVD. I have the Apex 1500 connected to a Sony Wega 32"and Midiland 7100 5.1 speakers for the 2nd system and I am happy with the results. I am going to buy another tonight for a spare and I do need another LOTR for a gift.

just FYI...if you try and upgrade the drive firmware, the LT37 didn't work for me..but the LT24 did.

Just came back from CUSA in Industry, CA and they now bundle this system with Monster cables if you want the free LOTR. They explained that they made a mistake yesterday in selling the player bundled with LOTR without the extra Monster cable. Monster cables have monster prices. This deal went from hot to dead in one day.

Deal is on again....Went back to the store (had to buy something at Home Depot and CUSA is close) and tried to purchase this DVD again. The cashier had specific instructions to try and sell the Monster cables bundled with the Apex. The Apex rings up at $99. The clerk said that if I could bring the sign up to him and prove the price I could get the price of $79.99. I went back to the the area where the Apex is displayed and brought the sign back to the cashier. He then rings up the correct price. I then ask for LOTR. The cashier says I had to get it myself in the DVD section. I go get it. Just the day before they had copies at the cashier. The cashier looks at me very sheepishly, and I say to him I understand that management made him make customers go through this procedure if they want this deal. He cannot say nothing if he wants to keep his job and just clams up. I make the purchase and tell myself that I will never buy anything from them again, unless it is an AT hot deal. Fry's has my regular business from now on.
