Apex 600A DVD/MP3 player $99 @ Kmart

I got an Apex AD600A DVD VCD MP3 player at Kmart for $99 this morning. Seemed like a pretty good deal to me!

So, what do people think of this player? Is it worth it?

mileage varies on apex (in general) WIDELY. some will say its crut, others will say its manna...check the manufacturing date on the back. good source of info is www.nerd-out.com
edit: one other thing i don't get--does the player look like the ad or does the player have the six buttons 3-on-2 design

I love this player...paid almost $200 for it about 8 monthes ago...check out a websearch for the Apex and you can find a mod kit that will unlock some goodies! Great player for that price...love the MP3 capability!

I think you can change the region code and disable macrovision copy protection with Apex 600, but not 600A. I had to return a 600 (bad unit) to CC for exchange, but they didn't have any 600s left at that time (Last December). I didn't want to get the 600A, so I got refund. Five of my friends also got the 600s at that time. One just died a few days ago, but the others seem OK.

I bought one a while back from CC also but had to return it because it was a defective unit. Cheap looks and feel, it pretty much did not satisfy me.

I am pretty sure that the CC one was the 500A, not the 600A. The 600A was about $150

There has never been an Apex "AD-600." Only the "AD-600A." There has been both an "AD-500" and "AD-500A" so that may be causing the understandable confusion.

The Apex is a great unit, if you get one that works well. That may seem like a loaded statement, but the fact is the Apex "Quality Control" Department stinks (that is, if they have one).

I have used an Apex for over 8 months and have loved ever minute of it. But, it took me 4 units to get one that finally worked right.

The unit has Coax Digital Output only.

The K-Mart near me has the Apex AD-660 model for $99, what is the difference between this one and the 600A. The description on the side of the 660 box says:

The AD-660 is nearly identical in features to the AD-600A. I have only heard (but cannot confirm) that the mp3 playback on the AD-660 is not as reliable. The AD-660 looks like a Toshiba (but it isn't, trust me!).

Circuit City is selling the AD-660 for $129 after rebate, so if K-Mart doesn't pan out, it's only $30 more.

I went to my local K-Mart and when they scanned the 600a it came up $169. I asked about a $99 sale and they said that was the price on Thanksgiving Day only. Obviously some of you were able to get it today so I don't know what's up with my K-Mart.

Man, I guess I got lucky then. I brought it up to the register, it rang up at $169 and I said that the tag said $99. The cashier mumbled something about 'yesterday' then said "$99 or $99.99?" I said I would check and she waved me off and charged me $99.

I guess I lucked out that she didn't care.

You freakin people make me SICK!! lol I work at Kmart, (and it doesn't suck) I am the electronics Dep. Manager. I got there Thurs @ 5:30 AM right, there is a freakin LINE of people around the building waiting to get in. It's pitch black outside and pooring cats and doggs, it couldn't have been more than 40 degrees outside either. THen when the doors open, people stampede, I have 23 of the APEX units exactly, and they were ALL spoken 4 in the first five minutes. I had to get our Loss Control Team Manager to stand in front of my stack of DVD players so peeps wouldn't thieve them!! Good price, yes, but have some control.... lmao

I work in a Customer Service Center, and you'd be amazed how many calls we got on the Thanksgiving "Holiday."

With all of the hype about "spending time with family" on the Holidays, it all comes down to people really don't care about anything but serving themselves (and I don't mean Turkey).

I to heard that the 660 had very poor mp3 playback but the 600a still didn't have a problem with that. Unfortunately the 600a country code was removed from the on screen menu. The original ones were the only ones who had that feature. I have an original 600a and have had it for well over a year now. The unit looks kinda cheap but works great, I've never had a problem with it. One of my friends also bought one and then turned right around and returned his $1200 sony dvd player. He thought his APEX was better than the Sony. We both paid $159 for our unit at the time at CC.
