APEX AD-1500 DVD @ 27.93 after PM/MIR Compusa

Circuit City has the AD-1500 for $57.93. Pricematched at Compusa. Compusa also have a MIR for $30, for a total of $27.93 + tax.

The bad news is all my local CC's discontinued the AD-1500 about 4 months ago but the sales counselor said because the price has 99 cents they might start carrying this again.

My local price was $57.99

I think this deal might run into problems. It *appears* that CompUsa will not price match when rebates are involved.......although the grammar and syntax of this exclusion is tough for me to understand. Can someone help us out here? Look to the last part of this quote:

i read this as meaning that if a price at a competitor is lower after that competitors rebate, then compusa won't match it. ie, if CC's was $50 after a CC rebate, then compusa wouldn't match to the $50 after rebate price. anyone else? is this player a steal at 30 bucks? i'm looking for a cheap one that will get the job done, and i've heard mostly good things about this player in term of it playing almost anything. is the apex quality really that questionable? and does it or does it not play mp3? i'm thinking i might pick one up after class this morning!

Thanks for the clarification-----I think you may be right about their price matching policy. AS for the quality, epinions.com has a ton of very positive reviews. At THIS price, I don't think we can go wrong.

nuts...i called my CC and they said they didn't have any of the 1500s. their website only lists the 1200, and the CC flyer looks to have the 1200 on the front at 57.99. is there any way to get confirmation of CC's price on the 1500?

My local CC's price on the 1500 is $57.99 but this has been discontinued and they have been out of stock for almost 4 months. If CompUSA were to call CC to verify the product, price and if it's in stock then we're screwed because most CC's are out of stock on the 1500.

I'm reading the reviews on this at epinions.com and amazon.com and they do not sound too good when talking about the player's durability. A lot of reviews say the player broke down after 4 months or so (assuming it wasn't dead on arrival which some people had trouble with)

Since it's so cheap and since I'm so cheap, I'm willing to take my chances with this inexpensive DVD player. However, I would like to buy an extended warranty on this thing - so is this wise to do? And how reliable is CompUSA's extended warranty's service?

Well i've had my Apex for over 6 months and it has not broken down yet, or had any problems with it. It has played everything i have put in it, and most have not been so original. And i can honestly say, that I only own 2 dvds, and that is because they were gifts. I might buy another one if i can get it for less than 30$.

I called 3 CC's they all said the they have 4000 on order. The Long Beach store said the they will get some in Sat.

I got it for $23 and change after tax today! Without a price match!

they had an open box player, the only ONLY APEX DVD player they had in the store!

It was $50, and the MGR said the rebate should work because the receipt showed it as an APEX DVD player purchased in the right time frame!

In regards to the price matching questions and comments above:

A couple of weeks I needed a stick of memory that Circuit City had advertised at $30 after a $20 rebate. The nearest CC was out of stock, but the CC 15 miles away had it in stock. I stopped in CompUSA and they had the same stick for $60 after a $20 rebate. To save a trip I decided to PM.

CompUSA did what they could to discourage me:
1. They let me wait 15 minutes at the "Service" Counter -- so I waited.
2. They said the price differential was too great -- I said where does it say that in your policy
3. They called the nearest CC and when told there was no stock said they wouldn't match -- I told them the second store had stock
4. They refused to call the second CC because "it wasn't local" (10 miles from CompUSA) -- I asked for a manager
5. Manager finally agreed but would only give me a store credit for the difference.

I could have driven accross town in the time I wasted fighting with CompUSA. I talked with the manager several days later, she seemed to be very vague on what the posted PM policies were and how her local policy matched up. All in all they managed to piss me off.

no luck on the PMing for me....none of the CC's within 30 miles had any in stock and said they didn't have any on order either. I still picked it up for the $50, but its not as good as 30. guess we'll see how it works...still have a couple weeks till i have to send in the rebate

I went and got the APEX-1200 series with the white kodak logo last one. Avoid the yellow kodak logo b/c those do not support VCD format. Apex got cheap.

Reasons:

1. Remote Control code that does Region Free (finally the 10 cent DVDs from China works)
2. 64 bucks total (dont worry about MIR or PM)
3. My old APEX-500w is on the blink (probably send it back to APEX)
4. GF is bitchin and whining (as usual)
