Apex ad-3201 DVD player $78 at sears! til 4-20 only! (possibly pasadena only, not sure)

my first deal, so flame away if you wish...

Just dropped by the Sears in Pasadena, CA (91125) today, and guess what I saw?

The Apex AD-3201 dvd player, marked down from 119.99 to only $78!
the tag said it was good til 4-20 I think, so you still have a couple of days
to get in on the deal.

not sure if its a local thing or not, but hey its worth a try, considering
Compusa is sold out of these (plus they're return policy sucks anyway).

this apex plays just about everything: dvd, vcd, svcd, mp3, cd-r, cd-rws......
plus you can turn off macrovision and make it region free, and even
update the firmware (for both the dvd drive and the mobo) via burning
an update onto a cd-r!

for comparision, I also tried the apex ad-1200 ($65 at CC), and ad-1500 ($99 at kmart).
the price for 1200 cant be beat, but theres no LCD panel, and it doesnt play svcds
all that well.
the 1500 adds an lcd, but its too pricey.
both are smaller in size, so its kinda hard to stack on top of your
other components (the 3201 is full size, and looks nicer)

personally, i think the 3201 is a great deal!
hope this helps people who are looking for a cheap but very functional dvd player.

this is a great DVD player. I can play CDR VCDs without a problem, and I haven't had any problems with it, maybe I'm just lucky

It apears to be available to order on line at the lower price. It says $119 but when you ad it to your cart it shows the lower price (and I just got one of hte 10 % off flashing banners, so I am gonna order it). I just looked up the store ad for my zip code and clicked through to the product and when I added it to my cart it came out at the $78 price.

Edit: Since I had 10 % off, I ordered 3 DVD players, 2 JVC 4 Head HiFi VCR's ($56) and a humidifier (extras for other people in the office)

Does anybody know if this model can recursively play ALL mp3-s on the CD (even those in subfolders)?

My current Apex 600 plays only one folder at a time, which sucks

I don't know how to get one. Sears.com has some deal where I think it randomly gives you 10 % off "If you order right now" when you visit the site. I have gone back and placed a second order but to get 10 % off, I had to use the Back button on my browser to get to a page that had the 10 % off again. The Link says it has "session ID" with a bunch of stuff that does not look like me (no name, several @@@'s and numbers and random lettrers) but I am reluctant to post becuase I do not know if my personal info is in the link or not It does not look like it and you have to enter my password to actually get to my order info, ..... ????

By the way, this is the same DVD player that was at CompUSA for $50 a week or so ago I shoulda gone to the store then and bought mine.

hey, im pretty sure it can play mp3s in all folders, i test burned a cd with a couple of tracks spread out in different directories and it seemed to have found and played all of them.

one note though, the mp3 interface is kinda crappy, u have to burn the cd in mode 1, iso9660 and 8 characters in filenames for anything to show up right, and even then, it only shows the first 7 characters
of file names and first 4 or 5 characters of the directory name.

why they dont allow it to show more is beyond me, but since i dont play mp3s on it that much, it doesnt really bother me...

Don't feel too bad about that. The CUSA deal was $50 AFTER REBATE. IIRC, it was something like $100 - 20IR-30MIR=50. CUSA is so slow/bad with MIR that you would either never see the $30, or spend six months fighting it out with 'em.

I was truly tempted with that deal too, and then I decided that I really dont NEED a DVD anyway. Edit Not to mention more CUSA rebate hassles.

Can't tell you for certain. I got it way back, when I ordered a microwave. It just seems to come up at random. Try browsing the item different times of the day. I think mine came up around midnight.
