they also have those at K-mart but the store I went to they ran out after 5min so they gave me AD-3201 for 69.99

All the other stores with $70/$75 DVD players seem to be Apex's of one variety or other, but I haven't heard what Best Buy's is yet, and their site really gives no clue. Their ad says "DVD800/80/DVD100," whatever that's supposed to mean.

Actually, the DVD-800 is not made by Denon, so the above link is incorrect.

The DVD-800 sold at Best Buy is a Nikkai, which thus far is an unknown brand in the United States. It supposedly will not play CDR, CDRW, or mp3 (at least according to the box those features are not listed).

Thanks, I just realized that when I saw the price listed at $300 in some places for the Denon. So those characteristics apply to all three of the Nikkai models? Apex seems the better of the two brands then.

Call me crazy, but the manual for the AD-1500 shows that it has a DVD Display panel on it, while the [newer] AD-1000 does not. That would be one significant difference. Also, the model shown in CC's newspaper ad is neither model; it looks completely different for some reason.

Only the DVD-800 is a Nikkai model. The DVD-100 is made by Shinsonic. It does play mp3/cdr/cdrw. The DVD-80 is, well, unknown. No one has been able to confirm actually seeing it to make comments.

It has been hypothesised (by me, no less) that Best Buys across the country are only going to get in one of the three models. So you'll either get lucky and have the Shinsonic DVD-100 at your store, get unlucky and have only the Nikkai available, OR get surprised and have the DVD-80 (surprised only because you can then come to Anandtech and let all of us know if it is a good DVD Player or not).

I already own the Shinsonic DVD-100 and in my opinion it is the best of the $69 players that will be available tomorrow. The Apex DVD-1500 comes in close second, and the DVD-1000 is a close third (only because it is missing the LCD on the front).

All players that I have purchased included the cables. However, the cables are not the best (cheap, thin and not insulated very well). Now, I don't even mess with the included cables and just leave them wrapped up. I'm not convinced that Monster cables are worth the $$, though. Instead, I have had lots of success with the Radio Shack "gold" series of cables. They are more realistically priced, made well and handle everything that I send through them.

If I knew Kmart would substitute AD1500 with AD3201 , I should have gone there!
AD3201 is much better model than all those Apex on sale, HDCD and optical digital out which is good for my MD player.
