Thanks, Atrac for the comparison.
But does anyone know for sure whether the Apex 1500 is better or the Shinsonic 100?

I don't know about this one. I picked up the Apex ad-1000 for $70. Didn't try it yet but from some of reviews on the Circuit City web site about the 1500 and I guess the 1000 too since they're so similar is not too great. There are 97 end user reviews. The beginning ones rave about it, but towards the end they're not too happy with it. In fact, they say it sucks. One says it's good if you've been using a VCR all this time and never saw another good DVD player before.

Has anyone compared this player's picture quality to another good brand name one?

Uhh.. the Circuit City reviews for the Apex 1500 are 4.6/5.. I'd have to say that that's pretty damn good.

Well, that means nothing really. We could have 90 idiots or tobacco chewing misfits who bought it
I ask again. Has anyone who has actual experiance with brand name DVD players seen the Apex too and compared them?

my .02 apex is good for the kids DVD player or for a older tv, buy if you have a Sony WEGA dont buy it . do a search on the web for a speck comparison.

I had this player once. the picture was ok. the decoder stinks compared to a philips or a sony.

again.. still hot for 69.99.$

Cool deal: I pre-ordered mine yesterday, picked it up today, and found that it's broken (no way to insert disc). Store is sold out of course, and doesn't know when they'll get more. I hope this isn't indicative of general quality, or we're all in for a bumpy ride.

I stopped by CC on La Cienega, in LA today around 6:30 pm and was able to find a Belkin USB Hub that was stashed behind a register. It was the very last one. I spent a good 30 minutes walking around CC and asking Reps to look in the back for me. I also saw a pile of these Apex 1500 DVD players, about 40 or 50 of them just sitting there. I am sure they will get rid of them eventually, that store is not frequented by the ritzi crowd.

When you experience top of the line equipment, you stick to that, and if you cant afford it, you hold out until you can.

OK guys,

I just finished watching Gladiator on the Apex AD-1000. The picture quality was pretty good. Especially
for $70. Not too bad. I have a question. Even zooming at 2x, I still had a back line on top and bottom of the screen. It went away went I zoomed in at 4x. That filled the screen. Is this normal?

I saw some minor "banding" I would call it, not really pixelation on some closeups. Kinda like the Voodoo2 cards used to produce. It happened very rarely and mostly on extreme closeups. Now I've never seen another DVD playback so I really can't compare how much better a brand name would look.
Does zooming degrade visual quality at all?

I thought you could move to different angles of the picture very easy. It seemed to move in tiny movements. Shouldn't it just keep moving in one constant motion?

<< BTW folks, I made a typo going to CC and entered this address, http://www.cicuitcity.com/. Guess which BM electronics is answering that? >>

DOH! Isn't that naughty of BeastBuy!
>>

Don't think it's them. I bet it's someone that bought the domain, joined Best Buy's affiliate program, and redirected the domain to make a couple bucks. Can't see Best Buy putting a JavaScript box for a Casino on their site...

I just read the manual and found it says AD-1500 supports PAL/NTSC/Mult system.

Does anyone try to play those DVD from European or China(they are using PAL system) ?

I also say some ad on Chinese newspaper about this DVD, it specifically mentioned that
support PAL, what's that mean ? Does that mean it can be hooked with PAL system TV,
or can play other regional DVD ?

Is the 1000 really a newer model then the 1500? seems a little strange to me...

In any case I just ordered one for my brother for Chrismas, it's $79.99 now but with free shipping it still a pretty good deal

THe main difference is the 1000 doesnt have a display on the front of it, just onscreen and the 1500 does. The 1500 is a better player.

Can anyone tell me if this will run of a UK main supply (50 Hz, 240v)? - it should say on the rear.

If so, pretty sweet - outputs to PAL (uk) as well as native NTSC, and hackable to play all my UK DVD's.

I've just moved here - so I have 20+ DVD in region 2

Thanks!

Welshman... The unit is only 110V. You could always get a cheap converter.

You mention its hackable... How..??

Cheers.
