A buddy of mine signed up with this company for a summer sales job and he's trying to get me to sign up as well. I'm pulling a real mixed bag from Google about them and must admit I have my reservations.

My primary concerns are the economic downturn and the fact that the company is from the midwest and I am unsure whether its business and sales practices are...shall we say appealing to the markets that the company is trying to penetrate.

Does anyone have any thoughts, comments or experience with this company?

That's nice, but you've long since proven your opinion to be less than worthless.

Anyone else have experience with the company?

Others, by lack of response have shown they don't care about yours.

I got an alarm by APX. The college kids that sold me the system and installed it were very nice. They seemed to enjoy the work. They get to travel around the country to different areas. The only drawback would be getting placed in an area that SUCKS.

Here is the skinny. I live in Utah where they are based. I worked at the Marriott where they had a lot of training meetings. They do have some questionable sales tactics that I've seen them train. "I'm sorry my husband isn't here." "Do you really need your husbands permission to protect your family" Basically they tell you to "give alarm systems away" so the customer feels like they are getting a freebie but then you have to make them sign at least a 3 year contract at 39.99 a month. (it might be 4 years now) I read through a few "training aides" and some of the sales tactics they teach you to use are kinda questionable. All in all you really can make a lot of money working for them if you are willing to knock on doors for 12 hrs a day throughout the summer.

Also I think they use a lot of Mormon return missionaries for this type of work because they are used to knocking on door and "selling" stuff to people.

All in all not a bad company, but they really like and need to sell a lot of alarm systems.

Word. Thanks for the info, guys.

I have to say that the numbers even the crappy salesmen put up for three months' work were pretty impressive but I'm not sure that I'm comfortable working for a company with such questionable tactics. Even the training literature wasn't exactly direct about compensation and there are a lot of gray areas on the contract that worry me. My other concern is that they're moving to New England which is quite a different environment than their bread and butter business of the midwest and they're doing so in the midst of the 'economic downturn' so I think it's going to be a lot harder to push alarms than it was during the past few years.

Every logical part of my being says to avoid this company but the money is just tempting enough to make me post up a thread hassling you folks. Thanks again for your time.

I don't think those are questionable tactics. It is just called sales. If people fall for sales like that, then so be it.

Only reason I got a system was that I was planning to get one anyways and ADT refused to give me a cell unit for free. APX was willing to do so. So when it fell on my doorstep, I took the bait.
