the carpet bombing of Tokyo scorched more earth and killed more civilians than the nukes. But that does not play to the liberal grievance mongers so it is overlooked.

They never mention the fact that Japan had it's own Nuke Weapons Program and would have use a Nuke device on Pearl Harbor had it been ready.

http://www.latimes.com/world/asia/la-fg-japan-bomb-20150805-story.html

"In 1945, the Japanese navy alone spent a fortune to gather uranium," Wilcox said. "They needed a win-the-war weapon and an atomic bomb was seen as one of those."

The Japanese government burned thousands of documents as the war was ending. Researchers believe many documents related to Japan's atomic bomb program were destroyed. U.S. occupation forces confiscated almost anything that remained.

liberal grievance mongers are always looking for apologies. Did japan "apologize" to China for all the torture / mass killings and murders?? And if they did does that satisfy your "tissue paper" sensibilities?? http://www.enkivillage.com/japanese-war-crimes.html

The Nanjing Massacre took place in 1937 at Nanking (Nanjing), China. The Japanese looted, raped, burnt and murdered both Chinese soldiers and civilians. About 20,000 Chinese young men were killed outside the city walls, which went down as a massive slaughter. The Japanese soldiers literally looted property from Nanjing residents and raped about 20,000 Chinese women during the first four weeks of the occupation. Those without anything were killed instantly. The international Military Tribunal in the Far East commonly known as the Tokyo War Crimes Trials estimated that a total number of about 200,000 Chinese war prisoners and civilians were killed. Other historians allege that the number could have hit 370,000.

You're the person mongering old grievances. I thought somebody should mention that as you apparently haven't noticed.

Self awareness. Get some.

When you cite an article to make a point it's a good idea to actually read the whole article:

"Most experts believe that Japan did not have the capability to build a nuclear weapon before the U.S. bombings.

Takeuchi told the Yomiuri newspaper that when he heard that "a new type of bomb" had been dropped on Hiroshima, he thought to himself, 'How the hell did the U.S. come up with an atomic bomb!'

"It was overwhelmingly regrettable and frustrating," he said.

When Japan surrendered, the occupying U.S. forces discovered just five cyclotrons, devices that speed up atoms in order to separate isotopes that can then be used for a bomb. U.S. atomic facilities in New Mexico, by comparison, contained hundreds of separators operating day and night to produce just four bombs.

"I don't think Japan's nuclear program was very advanced or that it played a role in the decision to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki," said Jeff Kingston, director of Asian Studies at Temple University's Japan Campus, and author of "Contemporary Japan."

I'm not here to say he apologized, but I do have a question.

Why is he away, fucking off somewhere else, on the taxpayer dime, instead of here honoring those who made great sacrifices for our country. It's Memorial weekend, for Christ sake! The Japanese, if they know about this, have to be laughing their asses off. Obama is an embarrassment to our men and women who serve.

When is a question not a question? When it's a diatribe. It's sad and painfully transparent.

G7 summit (whoops,-sorry Russia).

kinda his job and all that. You know, the rest of the world has different holidays and schedules their meetings differently.

Hate that all you want, different issue, but there it is.

Why did Bush play golf more than any other president ever on your dime? why?!!???!??!?

Oh the children!

But I assured you that Obama will appear on some badass aircraft carrier in the south China sea to lay a wreath in the ocean so that you can get your rocks off about the type of ceremony required to stoke your life energy.

Yeah, there is no way the president can be in Japan on Saturday and then be in the US on Monday! Rawr!!!! Rage! So much faux rage!!

If you are truly interested in the reason for his visit and are capable of putting your partisanship aside you can read the reason here.

I hope you're sitting down, but I actually think Compuwiz1 raises a valid point about timing. No, Obama didn't apologize to Japan (no matter what the loons say), and no he didn't sell us out to Vietnam this week. But he did make nice with them less than a week before Memorial Day, where we are supposed to remember all of the brave Americans who gave their lives fighting Japan and Vietnam (and others).

One of the veterans who works for me found that insulting, and he's not alone. Those countries killed their friends and family. While they probably should be over it by now, they aren't. It's a bit tone deaf to ignore their feelings. I think it would have looked better had Obama separated this trip from the G7 summit, or had the G7 rescheduled.

As far as Memorial Day itself is concerned, I checked the White House schedule and couldn't find anything for Obama for tomorrow. I do see he's already back in the U.S., however, and expect he will do some sort of public memorial. So no, he didn't let the Asia trip supersede Memorial Day.

Your employee is just plain wrong, period.

He thinks he gets to decide how we as a nation honor our fallen?

The G7 should reschedule its meeting because of his noble, but misguided feelings?

Thank him for his service, but remind him he's not the only person who's lost family in wartime.

Sad.

Sad..
He didn't say any of those things, and I agreed "they probably should be over it by now." The reality is that a great many of Obama's constituents are not over it, however. The White House would have shown more sensitivity by recognizing those feelings. It's not a cause for outrage but it is poor timing.

Do you have lead pipes in your house OP?

What is rattling around in your head lately? I think it's time for some serious self reflection about the cartoon you've become.

Meh. That's the same sort of headset that embraces the mythology of the Noble Lost Cause of the Civil War. For some, it's all hurf burf all the time. They're led around by the nose by outfits like Breitbart.
The first he heard of it was probably the same kind of negative spin & he bought it instantly. Cuz Murica.

Thats whats so interesting about the first world war. All the romanticism gave way to machined death. We need less romanticism about war not more.

I work with war vets in my job profession as well. Most don't have a problem with this or the vietnam agreement. most of my family, some of which have been brutalized by the north vietnamese gov't, while may not necessarily support the vietnamese they realize it's important to keep china in check, and realize this is good for both the US and vietnam.

I don't think the US president can reschedule the G7 summit either.

if we're going to be so sensitive around making public gestures with countries that we went to war with in the past but are now on good relationships with, theres going to be a shit ton of things people cant say or do and caving into the PC world. cant talk to the queen of england, david cameron or angela merkel around memorial day either now either can we? or is it just "those countries" over in asia that people are so offended about?

sorry if i offend anyone, but as a person with family who served in the military and was directly affected by the vietnam war, people need to start getting over it. and world war 2, seriously? 80 years has past, the world is different. we are fucking allies with germany and japan now, for god sakes. what better outcome can the families of deceased vets of WW2 want? for us to keep reveling in our glorious victory mentality and only keep the narrative of "we kicked their fucking asses, they deserved getting nuked"?? get the fuck over it. There's no dishonoring of vets, spitting on of graves or otherwise other ridiculous bullshit the OP is insinuating that our president is doing here. it's an acknowledgement that war is hell for everyone.

A lasting peace with Japan as our ally is a great outcome of our foreign policy / relations.
The maintaining of it is in America's interests.
