*stock* 3.4Ghz is *crippled* at 800Mhz FSB, dual channel, HT ... and will lose to a64 3200+ pretty consistently

heck, *my* 2.80c p4 @ 3.31Ghz will generally beat your stock 3.4Ghz P4

we *did* this to death in GH ... the *consensus* was that i am correct ... that's why i bought the damn thing ... for it's o/c'ability and we *compared* benchmarks with A64 rigs back then.

keep your dreams ... you can *have* them ... P4 is old news and dead architecture

i am not reliving it for anyone

But I don't own a 3500+ ....and my 3.4ghz P4's are OVERCLOCKED 3.0ghz P4's...so they have a FSB increase as well....

it was about 8,000 with my P4 *crippled* at 3.0 Ghz and a stock x1950p

remember, i had to drop the oc to keep everything completely stable ... even 3.2Ghz was marginal

O/C'd to 3.31Ghz it would beat your A64 rather soundly

but if the OC is unstable...then it doesn't count does it now....all my overclocks are 100% stable....

My A64 has proven itself at 2.87ghz for more than 52hrs running Prime95, in the middle of a 40C+ Australian summer....my P4's aren't that far behind.

well if a NW 3ghz and Prescott 3ghz P4's at 3.4+ghz on a SIS 655TX platform which is even faster than a i875 (look up AT's reviews if you don't beleive me) can't beat a stock 3000+, what makes you think that your lower clocked 3.31 can?

damn this is starting to sound like 2004 all over again....

my OC is 100% stable @ 3.31Ghz with my 9800xt o/c'd to the max, with my x850xt [that could run reliably at PE+ speeds] and even with the VisionTek x1950p 256M [the x1950p only being at stock]

it was *only* unstable with my Sapphire

sounds like your PSU wasn't up to the job....maybe I might get lucky and get to enjoy my Sapphire for awhile.

do you have any benchmark scores of your P4 with the Visiontek?

i think you were in my GH thread back in Jan '04 when i just barely picked out a P4 rig over an A64 because AMD put the price up overnight ... and then we'd discussed it to death with Duvie [i think] in O/C'ing forum ... now those are fanbois
:Q

and my PS wasn't enough for a serious O/C [even though it is now] ... i was in the stages of upgrading it when x1950p died - without warning

what does this have to do with re-evaluating nvidia?

i already posted my VisionTek 256 3DMark05 scores were actually 7850

nope, I wasn't unbanned until Dec 2004....from a 3+ years ban

Ummm now that you mention it....it has gotten a bit off track here

But I stand by my comments 100% a stock A64 3000+ is faster than a 3.4+ghz P4 (really 3.45ghz)....barely....

we are so *close* it is nitpicking ... i say replace "A64 3000+" with "A64 3200+" and *i agree*

same name back then? in 01?

3+ years?

anyway, i don't really care ... as i said ... i am *living with it* only another year ... and think about it:

4 years for a p4

i got 3 years out of my PIII

OMG !!!

*one* CPU and *five* count 'em ... video cards

OMG !!!

Hey I've had my AXP 3000+ and P4 3.06 since the start of 2003....they aren't going anywhere soon...

the only problem is now I'm running out of space to put them all....I'm almost finished my next rig....a Sempron 3100+@2.95ghz on a Epox 8NPA SLI....I wonder if the little Sempron will be fast enougth for 2 8800GTX's in SLI

i'm sure the sempron has plenty more left in it...the Epox only allows +5% increase in Vcore over the stock 1.4v...if I was to stick it in my GA-K8NS PRO....it would easily make 3ghz...I have Vcore settings all the way upto 2.0v :Q

going for 16xAF ... wish me luck ...
if you haven't played it ... Fable is such an awesome game ...

the people who say it is short must have hated it and ran thru the MQ ... there is *so much* to explore ... especially once you get the fishing rod and spade

i'll check in later

maybe 4am like yesterday morning
{played over 4 hours when i got sucked back into the MQ for awhile ... it is best to leave it and return as you build your mad skilz }

Reinstalled windows and installed the 1950 Pro AGP card for my dad and ran 3dmark on it...

So his stats were

A64 3500+ @ 2.5Ghz (I overclocked his CPU while I was there, no reason not too)
3GB Ram
X1950 Pro AGP 512MB W Stock
3DMark 05 Score = 9111 @ default settings

Versus

A64 3500+ @2.53Ghz
2GB Ram
7800 GTX @ Stock
3DMark 05 Score = 7613 @ default settings

And the winner is?

Happy for him, now he can play FSX with more details turned on.

Oh, I also tested the O/C function in the ATI control panel and overclocked it a few Mhz, worked fine, but I brought it back down to stock because he doesn't need it any faster. Awesome card... I looked over the quality before I installed it and it looked great. Great built IMO.

*awesome*

i hope it serves your family very well and for a long time

i don't think anyone expected the GTX to be the 'winner'

and you liked the Sapphire x1950p HSF ?

Yeah, I thought the design was cool. They could have used a better picture, but the design was cool. Though I admit, it was nowhere near as cool as the 6800LE. However, upon my surprise, the 6800LE had to weight AT LEAST 3 pounds. That sucker is huuuuuuuuuge and heavy, like lead. I almost would be leery about installing the card right side up due to its weight... Probably break off from the AGP slot... lol...

So his score went from like 1,800 to like 9,111. You cannot argue with that...

Why did you buy the Sapphire? It was certainly recommended to you in these foums that the power color had a much better hsf? Also the reviews were clear on this. Bet you regret not taking that advice? I must admit to have voided every vid card warranty I have had by using an after market hsf. Luckily the extra cooling seems to have contributed to none of my cards stopping (knock on wood). :wine:

i could just say mind your own business

X1950 Pro AGP is coming!

Suffice it to say, i did NOT know about Sapphire's RMA policy when i purchased it and it was the ONLY x1950p/512M that was available at the time

So I guess your research was faulty. Don't understand, did you like the hsf, until you fried your card? I will quit minding your business, when you quit starting threads with your name in the title. :wine:

no, your *reading comprehension* is faulty

1) there was NO OTHER x1950p/512M card available when i bought it
2) i didn't realize how *cheap* the HSF looked till i actually got it
3) i did not "Fry" my card

wrong on all 3 counts ... as usual

thanks for a laugh
