App for backing up

Backing up about 100gigs of data on a spare HD. Is there a better, faster or more reliable way to do this rather than using windows explorer?

figured out winrar has a synchronizing feature

I have discovered that winrar is kind of slow and somewhat unreliable for backing up this much data. What do you guys use to back up HDs?

i tried synching the rar file right after it was created and winrar locked up.. so thats not going to work. Looking for any suggestions..

A backup application called Retrospect is by far the most popular backup tool used in corporate environments, so you can look into that. I think that would suit you nicely as it has a ton of useful features such as automation, etc, but the software isn't free. I think the app goes by a different name now, but you can try googling for it.

Edit: I think it goes by the name of BackUp MyPC now, but I could be wrong.

Check out Handy backup (www.handybackup.net), I've used it for some time and it works great. Secondcopy 2000 is ok, but it isn't updated often(last updated 2000??).

When I used SecondCopy 2k a while ago it didn't have the option to back up to a CDR/RW which is also why I no longer had a use for it, and as far as I know, it still doesn't have that ability. Don't know when the last update was.

Im not going to ever back up to CDRs so thats no big deal.. Im mainly looking for speed and reliability and the ability to syncronize instead of rebacking up everything would be a nice feature

for backups... you can use Karen's Replicator freeware...works great

for synchronizing, etc...the only free one I know of is the lite version of vice versa

I run Windows Backup every night which backs up to the hard drive of another computer on my network. Hasn't failed me yet, simple to configure too. If you just need a simple backup program I suggest trying the Windows Backup first...

is the windows backup under the administrative tools? Ive never used it.

syncBack on the list of free apps works pretty good
its fast and the syncronize process only takes a few secounds to check for 100gigs..

Start Menu>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup

viceVersa seems to work good, and has less BS than syncBack
