I don't want to check daily, I just want an alert if my scheduled normal commute drive has a delay. Anything like this exist?

If you have an Android phone you're in luck, Google Now does this very well. If you have an iPhone there is the Google Search app which has Google Now stuff, but I don't know if it works as well as it does on Android.

I guess I'm not clear. I don't want a pull application. I am not going to check traffic every single day. The one time a month there is an accident, I want something to just email or text me. I don't want to explicitly go check daily.

GoogleNow puts a notification in your notification area, provided you configure your home and work locations there.

Google Now does exactly what you're looking for.

Take it from me. Every. Single. Day. I'm reminded by Google about how much I hate the deathtrap that is Houston traffic.

The annoying problem I have with Google Now is it tries to be too smart and only show the traffic alerts when it learned what time I go to and leave work. And that was great, until I changed schedules. And after 8 months it's still showing traffic reports during my old schedule and I don't know how to fix that. I can search for "traffic" in Google Now and get that card, but it's so annoying.

I used to use Google Now everyday, now it's dead to me.

Don't know why it'd be doing that for you, I get traffic alerts all day. In fact, I enabled Google Now on my work PC and it pretty much sends up the card whenever there's traffic.

Hell it alerts me the same thing everyday for LA traffic. They should change the alert to when there's the off chance of no traffic.

Also if for whatever reason you don't want to enable/use Google Now, what you can do as a workaround is have a shortcut on your homescreen that will initiate directions to your home address. So, when you want to check traffic you just tap the shortcut and it'll load Google Maps with directions ready to go and you can see how long the commute would be.

He wants it done automatically, so I see no reason why he wouldn't want to use Google Now. Its the only way I know of to get that info automatically. Only problem is that it shows the notification almost every day.

My Windows Nokia 1020 With 8.1 dos this automatically everyday without any input from me. Cortana comes up and tells me how long it'll take me to get to work or home. Also tells me for my frequent trips to the airports based on flight information it captures from my emails. Pretty sweet features!

For iOS users, Google Now will do this as well. Pull the cards up and tell if you want to enable notifications:

I also believe the Scout app will alert you and give you alternative directions, but I've not used it myself

It shows up in your notification tray just like a text or email, except it's updated more frequently.

Getting text/e-mail traffic alerts is what dumbphone users have to deal with. You have a smartphone, right?

I have to cross the train tracks on my way to work. About once a month I get caught by one and it makes me late. Does google now know anything about freight train routes and/or locations?

This thread reminded me to turn Google Now notifications back on after I'd silenced them due to spammed flood warnings.

Yeah, this was really annoying. You can manually set your home and work locations, why can't you manually set what times you want to get there? I hate having to rely on an unreliable "personal assistant" to figure it out for me, because they're always wrong.

My Windows Nokia 1020 With 8.1 dos this automatically everyday without any input from me. Cortana comes up and tells me how long it'll take me to get to work or home. Also tells me for my frequent trips to the airports based on flight information it captures from my emails. Pretty sweet features!

Glad you had that experience, but when I had Cortana it ended up being a lot like Google Now, maybe even worse. Instead of notifying me all the time about traffic, it only did so occasionally, and always at the wrong times.

This thread reminded me to turn Google Now notifications back on after I'd silenced them due to spammed flood warnings.

This is why I cannot get on board with Google Now or Cortana. They spam shit you don't want, they don't reliably give you the information you do need ESPECIALLY if you don't specifically search for it, which OP doesn't want to do, and there's no way to tell them when you actually need to be at work and when you need to leave - they just guess. Work schedule changes? Stay late a couple days temporarily? Sorry, the assistant is now useless.

OP, I'd say either live with manually checking or find a local news website that does email or text alerts.

I never check my notification tray, b/c its filled with useless shit.
Are you saying it will say "Traffic Jam" in my notification tray?

This is what I want. The ONE day there is a complete traffic jam on my way to work, I want there to be a text sitting on my screen that says "TRAFFIC JAM" (Take the side roads to work) It is idiotic to check every single day manually for an event that happens once every 90 days. If that's a dumbphone, that's EXACTLY what I want.
