The annoying problem I have with Google Now is it tries to be too smart and only show the traffic alerts when it learned what time I go to and leave work. And that was great, until I changed schedules. And after 8 months it's still showing traffic reports during my old schedule and I don't know how to fix that. I can search for "traffic" in Google Now and get that card, but it's so annoying.
I used to use Google Now everyday, now it's dead to me.
I never check my notification tray, b/c its filled with useless shit.

This is what I want. The ONE day there is a complete traffic jam on my way to work, I want there to be a text sitting on my screen that says "TRAFFIC JAM" (Take the side roads to work) It is idiotic to check every single day manually for an event that happens once every 90 days. If that's a dumbphone, that's EXACTLY what I want.
This is why I cannot get on board with Google Now or Cortana. They spam shit you don't want, they don't reliably give you the information you do need ESPECIALLY if you don't specifically search for it, which OP doesn't want to do, and there's no way to tell them when you actually need to be at work and when you need to leave - they just guess. Work schedule changes? Stay late a couple days temporarily? Sorry, the assistant is now useless.
OP, I'd say either live with manually checking or find a local news website that does email or text alerts.

Well to be honest there should be more options for Google Now. Like if you don't like the commute times and when its displayed, you should have an option to change that. I tend to get commute times starting 4pm even though I typically don't get off til after 6 and usually after 7pm.It sounds like you aren't actually interacting with Google Now so it learns what to send your way. You can manually customize what sends notifications, or you could deal with them as they come up and you can decide whether you want to continue getting these updates or not.
I do not understand the traffic alert problem, I see my time to home everywhere I go be it work, a random store, friend's house, etc. It's always there for me.
Regarding TV shows, just search for the show using a computer, and you can tell it to remind you of new episodes. So, search for GoT, and turn off the reminders for new episodes. Then, search for 24, and tell it to remind you of new episodes. I should also be able to choose which TV shows I care about. It tells me Game of Thrones is on Sundays at 9pm. Great, but what about 24? Oh because the only way to trigger that is by searching it? What if I search about a show I don't follow?
This whole automated stuff is good, but at the same time it deserves to have some knobs and dials for the power user.

you know i do have 1 gripe with google now
it only pulls stuff from gmail and i dont use gmail
google would have to let people have access which im pretty sure they dont
its only a minor gripe. but all my real email goes to another acnt which i had years before gmail ever existed, so Google now never pulls appointments, plane flights and all that stuff it can do :/
I DONT want to have to CHECK Google Now.
I want it to TEXT or EMAIL me if there is a delay.
