no, you really have to ignore alot of people here when it comes to dressing well (among many other things) because the demographic has a strong tendency to be as unclassy as possible (see the jort thread around here, full of apologists :|)

There's almost unanimous agreement on mistakes #2 and #3. No one has mentioned #5, but I think that's a given just like #3. #6 is a matter of taste, not what's "correct" (although I'll side with the author on that one). #7 pits two extremes against one another and claims one of them to be wrong and the other to be correct.

So that said, #7 begs a happy medium while #4 and #1 are just downright retarded. Even the best-case scenario put forth by the author falls into "doesn't fucking fit you" category. If the douche in #1 needs to get something off the shelf, he'll need to ask his "life partner" to do it for him since he won't be able to extend his arms. And I'm sure that we're not far off from having "man-pantyhose" since shit like #4 is being advocated. As soon as he sits down, everyone's getting a fabulous shot of his shins and knees.

I forget who started it, but that's actually a trend in some places to basically have flood pants for suit pants

regarding #4
do you really lose 10 inches in length when you sit down?

as long as your socks match your slacks which they should it shouldn't be a problem

I have a few pairs of slacks that have a light break and I have no problem sitting down then again I am shorter than average but I only lose about 3 maybe 4 inches when I sit down.

there's some solid tips, the tie thing is legit. cheap ties make small knots that just don't look good.

Depends.

I prefer small knots on my ties regardless of what is "in".

Clothing choices should be locale specific. Formal wear for dress up events. Office dress for offices. Casual wear for leisure time. Scrounger clothes for yard work or auto repair.

When you spend more time scrutinizing the apparel choices of other men rather than checking out what the women are wearing, you have crossed the line from metrosexual to... well, you fill in the blanks.

I aim for a slight break. When I sit down, I lose a few inches, too; nothing serious. Of course the picture the show for the "mistake" has way too much of a break (it just flat out doesn't fit the guy), but their "right way" is the other extreme. If there isn't a slight break when you stand up, your pants don't fit.

I guess I'm going to go against the grain and say that these are all good tips. In fact, I think it's just common sense to wear clothes that actually FIT instead of the baggy stuff that I see all over the place. I certainly don't dress as the article says on the weekends or when I'm just lounging, but everyone with a professional job should try to buy clothes that fit their frame.

I dunno, I agree with most people that a lot of these tips are extreme.

I have a leather jacket that's nearly eight years old now. I certainly didn't follow their tips when I bought it and I get compliments on it every single time I wear it out. *shrug*

The truth is that so much of fashion is about your self-confidence. Carry yourself with confidence and people will find whatever you're wearing attractive (within reason). I mean the take-away from the article is "buy clothes that fit." Don't go overboard. Their pants example is horrendous. With no break in your pants it looks like you had a late-life growth spurt and can't afford new clothes or a trip to the tailor.

These tips aren't for people whose calves can't fit into jeans or ones that buy clothes at walmart. I guess those are usually the same people though.
