Problem: Whitewashed high-waisted jeans aren?t just dorky?they also emphasize all the wrong parts of your body.

Solution: Medium-rise raw denim jeans sit at the most flatter place (on your hips), follow your legs (instead of saddlebagging out from your waist), and form-fit to you as you break them in. Oh, and while you?re at it, replace the Seinfeld-esque running shoes with some lace-ups or classic sneaks.

Jeans, $90, by Martin + Osa. Sweater, $100, by Uniqlo. Shirt, $40, by H&M. Shoes, $560, by Alden.

$90 jeans, wtf?? My Levis are just fine at $30 apiece and they fit great.

i wouldnt pay those prices for a single garment/item that they suggested. no way in hell, even if i could afford them.

I'll agree with the jeans.

That tight suit at the end looks stupid.

I think the suit is a little too tight but the guy on the right definitely looks way better than the one on the left in every single case.

Of course he is. I'm sure GQ isn't so stupid as to choose models/outfits that contradict what they're saying.

it's the same model in every picture so it is not like they are skewing things that much

and it sounds like everyone that says they disagree advocates wearing clothing that is 2-3 sizes too big vs 1 size too small

Saw that "50 best dressed men" article.
Not sure I agree, but you can tell they did put a lot of thought and effort into it.

As for the article we are all talking about: Every single one of those guys was painfully skinny. Thats the only way you can make a GQ outfit work. GQ hires super tall models for the same reason Victorias Secret does: They look even skinnier.
I will never be able to do it. After 9 years in the Navy, hauling paint cans up and down the ship, doing ridiculous amounts of pushups (especially in boot camp) and running up & down the hills of Southern California and Iceland, I will never, ever be skinny. Even if I lost all my fat I'd still have massive shoulders and a broad chest. Actually, thinking about that just provided me with another motivation to lose weight. Underneath all this blubber I probably look halfway decent.
BUT, I will never look like a GQ guy. The bitches are just going to have to deal with it!

Nice grammar. And no, I'm not buying a skin tight jacket just because some GQ fairy thinks it's cool.

I've accepted the fact that because my calf muscles are gigantic, I'll never be able to wear skinny jeans... heck, even boot-cut is iffy depending on the brand.

I was hanging out with a guy friend last week that weighs 125 pounds... the fact that I've lost 1.5 times as much as his entire body weighs and am still considered to be obese (8 pounds left till I'm just overweight per bmi charts) freaks me out a little bit.

Your calf muscles do not fit in boot cut jeans? Christ, that might be a warning sign. Are you absolutely positive that's all muscle?

it's not so much a matter of not fitting as being tighter than I prefer.

it's mostly muscle at least. heh. I've still got another 30-40 pounds to drop on top of the 200 I've already lost.

no, you really have to ignore alot of people here when it comes to dressing well (among many other things) because the demographic has a strong tendency to be as unclassy as possible (see the jort thread around here, full of apologists :|)

Bootcuts have bigger bottoms than tops right? Little larger than straight legged, which has same size bottom as top. That means your calves are bigger than (/as big as) your thighs?

they've got a taper around the knee / top of the calves.

HA! I was thinking the same thing when I read it: "Top 7 grammar mistakes that most blogger/journalist-wannabes make".

most of that article is just common sense.

You get a suit fitted by a tailor, you wear collar stays, don't buy baggy clothing and stick to "classic" pieces if you don't have any internalized sense of style. Oh and don't buy a piano key necktie.

The only thing I would throw in to that 7 mistake is that people tend to undress v.s. overdress. If you overdress, well then your problem is just being the best dressed person in the room : P and it's always pretty easy to tone things down than up.

pretty good article on some basic fashion mistakes. obviously, you can substitute those articles of clothing they suggest for cheaper pieces, but very good suggestions that most people can't really disagree with.

There's almost unanimous agreement on mistakes #2 and #3. No one has mentioned #5, but I think that's a given just like #3. #6 is a matter of taste, not what's "correct" (although I'll side with the author on that one). #7 pits two extremes against one another and claims one of them to be wrong and the other to be correct.

So that said, #7 begs a happy medium while #4 and #1 are just downright retarded. Even the best-case scenario put forth by the author falls into "doesn't fucking fit you" category. If the douche in #1 needs to get something off the shelf, he'll need to ask his "life partner" to do it for him since he won't be able to extend his arms. And I'm sure that we're not far off from having "man-pantyhose" since shit like #4 is being advocated. As soon as he sits down, everyone's getting a fabulous shot of his shins and knees.

Most of those looks are pretty silly. I don't understand the whole toothpick suit with short pant legs. In NYC it's become very common to see socks on the guys wearing suits. Jackets are almost demi-jackets, they are starting to go to wrist-level rather than finger level, not quite as bad as that leather jacket, but getting closer.

The whole leather jacket thing is ridiculous.
