Wow...amazing...must have been a very in depth search trying to find a laptop that can share photos.

Man, that's pretty pathetic what you said there. Do you wear your white hood out in public much?

And LOL @ the stupid Mac fanboys in this thread. The whole point of the PC ads, as everybody said, is to show people they can buy a good notebook at a great price. Keyword is value, not fruitcake. You can buy a whole lotta PC power with 1K, where as you'll only get a small underpowered macbook going Mac.

but you can use os x!!!!!! its my personal brand image and i can only be seen using that OS!

Think of it this way:
Imagine if Kia gave someone $13,150 and said go buy a four door car with AC and an automatic.

The person then goes to a Honda and Toyota dealer, but cries that they don't have enough to buy one of those 'cool' cars and then drives off in a new Kia.

We'd all be laughing our asses off at Kia if it tried that.

BTW Lauren is an actress. Google Lauren De Long to see her site. More pics, but she looks cuter in that commercial than in any of her pics.
This would only be applicable if the $13,150 Kia was every bit as good or superior to the Toyota or Honda anyway.
The Kia is not, and neither is the $600 lap top in the MS add.

MS is comparing one of the best 17inch lap tops to one of the cheapest 17inch lap tops and declaring "Look they both have the same size screen!!!"

I think the comment is simply made up. The article claims the commercials are unscripted. I find that hard to believe. I mean they all seem like they are reading a script and are very robotic. Plus you get guys saying things that just don't make sense. Ohh look how nice looking this mac is, I'd buy it but macs simply are not powerful like windows is. On top of that these are people buying a computer from best buy, which to me simply shows their ignorance in the first place.

I find these commercials as annoying as the mac vs pc commercials apple runs. So I guess that makes them even.

ahhh....stop being a fan boy. You missed the the whole point. They gave then X dollars to buy any laptop they want.

They can't buy a mac b/c it goes over X dollars.

They come out with a PC b/c they are the only laptops at that price point.

All macs laptops are over their price range.

The PC is with in their price range.

PC cost less than mac.

Mac cost more than PC.

Do I really have to explain it anymore? Or will your hard on for macs prevent you from seeing the point? I mean, you even said yourself, "Only reason I don't own one is they cost too much", which was the whole point of the commercial.

Except for I watched one with a black guy who had a 1600.00 budget. More then enough to get a mac. He appeared to love the mac at first look, but then suddenly said "Well macs are slow and not powerful" and then bought a crappy HP laptop.

I don't see the big deal here. Sounds like MSFT has an ad where they either state or imply that you can't get an apple laptop for under $1,000 and now that apple does have a laptop for under $1,000 they don't want that ad to run anymore.

In the "Lauren" ad she did say that there was one Macbook available for under $1000, but it had a 13" screen. She wanted a 17" screen. Apple still only has on laptop under $1000. They lowered the prices on their other laptops, but they're all still above the price level of these laptop hunter ads, so I'm not sure why they would call MS and tell them that their ads are wrong.

No one ever looks past the hardware when comparing Macs and PCs, which is stupid because the main difference is the software. I think most Mac users don't use Macs because of the hardware, they use Macs because they like the OS. That's why you see people building Hackintoshes, and not many people buying Macbooks and only running Windows on them. Obviously people value the OS enough to buy the more expensive hardware that is required to run it.

I suppose if you're one of those people that absolutely has to run one of those programs that can only run on the Mac OS, then it would be useful. I seriously doubt most Mac users fall into that category though.

That's the fucking point. They go in with a budget, and the macs are above budget. You'd fit right into what they are looking for.

But they give them the money to buy it and say "buy what you want!" If anybody else was flipping the bill I'd have a Mac, I wouldn't be cheap with another persons bread

They don't give them a blank check - they get the money to buy up to their stated budget. The couple in the embedded commercial had a budget of $700 - so they got $700.

What Apple laptop can you buy for $700 again?

I love my mac...its fast and powerful and easy to use and slick and quiet....oh yeah and it cost only $10,000 (2x2.93 quad core Xeons and 16GB ram) and work paid for it I don't think I'd ever walk in to a store and buy one for myself when Dell, Lenovo, etc run deals every week for machines that while not as slick or quiet or easy are still just as fast and powerful for hundreds if not thousands less.

they don't tell them to find something under $1000, that is their budget regardless of MS.

it is comparable to someone has only 20k and goes into a Mercedes dealership, the only car they can buy is the smart. MS bought up a valid point and has the right message, you can't and shouldn't buy what you can't afford, but you still can do a lot of common tasks on the PC.

LOL... this is funny. You don't see MS complaining about those stupid "I'm a Mac/PC" ads. Those things sometimes just aren't true.

Nice try. In terms of cars, you have to realize that Kia/Hyundai are as much as good as Toyota or Honda in terms of quality, and that's the point. They DO run commercials that pretty much have the same sort of ad campaign as MS does here. Hell, Hyundai I believe had a whole line of commercials comparing their cars (and ratings) to the luxury lines (Infinity, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes) with the whole emphasis being that feature for feature, they met or exceeded the standards of the "name brands", at a significantly lower price point.

The ads emphasize that given a economic price point and a given set of requirements, Apple generally can not compete. Take the Apple tax out of the equation and it's a different story.

Seriously?

Usually you don't say things this dumb, so I'll take this to be an oddball exception. There are many very well put together PC notebooks and many others that are quite light. Also, at least form my understanding, Apple notebooks aren't the best when it comes to battery life.

To prefer a Mac is one thing; speaking nonsense is another.

Agree completely, there are some very sturdy PCs with excellent battery life out there. To argue that Apple has some secret tech that makes theirs more battery efficient/sturdy is retarded.
