If it just means that the computers aren't bundled with the Radeon, it's not a big loss. As long as Radeon can run on Mac's, we can see some real competition when it comes to games and 3D apps..

Yeah, but it would sure suck to overpay for a mac then have to buy another video card on top of that. Bundled would be better.

By the way guys, just to be picky, 3dfx was making Mac cards long before the V5. Lots of V3 Mac cards out there.

I don't think it was a good move by Jobs by any means to ditch Radeon (for now), but I am always amused by techheads calling a self-made multi-multi-multi-millionare a moron. Hell, if being a bonehead made me that much money I'd probably do it too. Unfortunately, in my case, I'd just be a bonehead.

Xtremist: Everyone makes mistakes. In case you havent noticed Jobs saved apple. The company would be gone now if jobs hadnt come back. The ati thing was a mistake made on his part out of anger. Ati will still probably make radeon boards for the mac though so no biggie. And once jobs cools off and realizes what he has done he might even get the radeon back.

Just cuz someone does something stupid doesnt make him/her a stupid person.

To me the Mac OS seems to be the main thing holding it back. I certainly hope that OS/x is a lot better than OS8-9. The multitasking on regular Mac OS is not that good compaired to even Windows 95 leave alone NT and now 2k. Also on the Mac I have here just to mess with and learn more about Macs, ever since I switched to OS 8.5 I have had crash after crash when trying to do a lot of multitasking and the multitasking if you could call it that, is jerky and very slow at changing between apps. Sure my Mac is only a 68040 but heck I can do a lot more on my old 486/66 in the multitasking department and hardly ever get a lockup and it's a lot faster with many apps running at the same time with lowely Windoez 95 OSR2 than this Quadra is with Mac OS/8.5! I feel that the Mac overall is not a bad computer but the OS is what holds it back. I sure HOPE that OS/x is as good as they are saying it is for Apples sakes!

To the people that said that Jobs saved Apple, sure that is true, Apple was ready to go out of business. Jobs is a very good businessman overall and he did bring it back from death but lately his old ways seem to be popping up again. I hope he realises his mistake. The Mac needs a Faster video solution for their computers.

One last thing, I am FAR from a Mac basher. I have owned many Macs in the past and have two at the house now but for serious work when I HAVE to get something done and fast and don't want to wait and reboot all the time the PC with Windows 2k is very reliable and very fast and so much more easily upgraded to the machine need and you can do it a piece at a time if you are broke!

see the thing is, you guys are just at the opposite end of the spectrum of Mac Zealots. I am in no way on their side, but I have seen nothing wrong (besides insane price and not a good enough Vid card til now).

The G3 and G4 by far surpass it in ease of use (talking about how u upgrade hardware, you just fold down one side, and the mobo is on the tray you fold down sitting there flat on the ground, rather then on the side with PC's), and the Mac OS was light years ahead till Windows 9x came around. 95 still wasn't quite there, 98 pretty much equalled it, and 2K equals it (becuase it's at least as bloated as Mac OS).

Of course, if you wanted to, you could also just use Linux like in a PC.

If you don't have the hardware for the games, you won't get devopers making the games, that's why the MAC hasn't gotten many games. it's not becuase they just don't want to, the audiance certainly is there.

Rhapsody, Copland, Pink, Nextstep. Has anybody seen these anywhere. For apple it is one screw up after another. As for SJ saving Apple , it was not SJ but some industrial designer who decided to put coloured plastic on an existing platform that really saved Apple. But wait , maybe I am wrong .By killing the clones and making computers that are not upgradable and modifying desktops as to make them non-upgradable SJ has helped Apple insure a steady cash flow by people having to buy a complete new system. I am sure glad I hoped off the Apple cart.

As for the ATI situation , SJ get a life. For ATI to announce that the Radeon will be available for Mac's is about as big as a surprise as the sunrise tomorrow.
