so now we know the story on removable batteries/storage.

Yeah, makes perfect sense now. Why champion anything but locked architecture if you're trying to angle yourself into a job at the #1 profiteer of locked architecture.

Great revolving door/captured regulator situation.

Ah, yes, the common mindset that dehumanizes those who we don't have to see every day in exchange for not having to care about the destroyed lives of others at the expense of our convenience. I've worked for ones that don't.

Its the American way.

Sad but true.

I say good for him. Fanboys of both stripes were always going to complain about or tout his reviews. I always found them insightful and balanced.

He did the right thing by resigning from AT.

Plus let's face it, about the only person Apple can't buyout is Bill Gates.

That they pointless for most people? Sure, but everyone knows that. How is it related?

-KeithP

considering how many people with iPhones complaining about how their iPhone runs out of storage now that video and photo is so pupular, i'd say your point is more pointless than anything else.

Yeah, its pointless to have a choice, especially when that choice is mattering more and more every day.

But who cares, everybody should conform.

Apple Hires Longtime Technology Journalist Anand Lal Shimpi

After announcing his departure from AnandTech, veteran technology journalist Anand Lal Shimpi will join Apple in an undisclosed role, reports Re/code. A representative for Apple confirmed that Shimpi would be joining the company, but also declined to provide any further details.

I'm quite disappointed. After Brian Klug Apple's now hiring Anand? I bet Ian Cutress will be next.

Why would he retire from his own gig to go work for the man? In his shoes I'd definitely rather keep running the site than to work for another company unless the site was not bringing enough money? Most people use adblock these days so advertising revenue on websites is not what it used to be. You basically get ads from those nice enough to disable because they're loyal to the site, and those who just finished reinstalling their OS/programs and did not get around to installing adblock yet.

Either way there may be more to it than we know so I'm sure he has his reasons.

rumor is hes getting a job pretty high up that could lead eventually to ceo

Would be cool. I'm kinda thinking he might have what it takes to be part of a New Products R&D type of division. Somewhere he could help take Tech and apply it to new Products, with the good understanding of what certain Tech is capable of and what the average Joe/Jane wants from their gadgets.

Time will tell.

It's no secret that he loves his gadgets. Why not work for the world leader in that segment?

Besides, there's only so many times one can review a CPU or video card before the sanity starts evaporating.

The man spent 17 years writing about hardware, and depending on his position, he may now get a chance to have much more influence in the area that he loves (note: I don't mean Apple in particular, but hardware/software in general). Honestly, it seems like a step up to me, and I'd say the same if it were a company like Intel, AMD or NVIDIA.

Anand, your first task is to push Apple toward including more RAM in the next iPad!

No way Anand has what it takes to be a CEO. Not in a million years. You have to be a certain kind of douche and lose a lot of integrity to have that job. You'd have to sell out to money every time and have almost no moral compass. He may have got bought out a little but I could never see him sinking that low. He's got to much integrity for that.

Product management is the first thing that comes to mind. Perhaps he'll be some sort of technology evaluator helping the company to make better decisions about what technologies to adopt.

yeah, i hope he will finally bring wireless charging to iphone 7.

How much more influence can you have than someone who educates millions of people and talks to dozens of companies?

lol @ whining for Anand "selling out"

He took a JOB. A job that's probably fucking awesome for a guy like him, and pays cubic shitloads to do it. If getting paid to do what you like to do gets this kind of reaction around here, then it's no wonder you're all a bunch of miserable fucks.

Good luck Anand

Unsurprising. Shimpi has been shilling for Apple these past few years, the site has become Appletech.
This is his reward for providing loyal service.

You should read Shimpi's "reviews" of Apple products these past few years. He has proven himself to be eminently qualified.

I literally see zero problem with getting paid a bucketload of money to work for the world's richest, most powerful technology company doing what you love.
