Why would he retire from his own gig to go work for the man?

Dunno but he walked out of the meeting carrying this mysterious blue bag.

Don't blame him really. The website probably doesn't make that much money once expenses are paid for. Working at Apple is a dream job, and probably means he doesn't have to travel as much. Wonder what he'll be doing. Probably something like PR or marketing, or maybe a product consultant. Best of luck Anand.

Now, his first task which I have set upon him is to convince Tim Cook that soldered ram and all that adhesive is leading to a dramatic drop in MacBook sales.

My guess is that he'll work on the performance/competitive analysis team on the chip side of things.

You guys are ridiculous. Of all journalists out there, Anand is the only one whose reputation is impeccable. He's already stated that they'll be a very distinct firewall between him and editorial content on the site. This is the one guy I trust when something like that is said.

lol @ whining for Anand "selling out"

He took a JOB. A job that's probably fucking awesome for a guy like him, and pays cubic shitloads to do it. If getting paid to do what you like to do gets this kind of reaction around here, then it's no wonder you're all a bunch of miserable fucks.

Good luck Anand

I'd sell out for big bucks as well.

Yeah, makes perfect sense now. Why champion anything but locked architecture if you're trying to angle yourself into a job at the #1 profiteer of locked architecture.

Great revolving door/captured regulator situation.

this is actually a little bit depressing

Everyone posting nonsense like this has never worked in the valley and/or technology. Someone like Anand would not have to "angle" themselves into a job at Apple - give me a break. He could easily have gotten a job at Google, Facebook, Samsung, etc. Anand is at least as accomplished as many of the folks I know at these companies.

lol at sellout comments... similar to sellout accusations for rock bands.

Apple does not need biggest sellout; they would need somebody who would objectively look at tech products for what they are. And they got #1 man to do it.

I literally see zero problem with getting paid a bucketload of money to work for the world's richest, most powerful technology company doing what you love.

For him it isn't a problem, but for people who want to read his reviews and listen to his podcasts? Who can replace his job?

Some smart, entrepreneurial individual will eventually step up to the plate to do so if the current AnandTech can't satisfy those readers.

Let's just hope that reviews stay as detailed as they always have been. No one reviews products like Anandtech does.

It's also hyperbole. I have no loyalty to Apple, own no stock in Apple, and do not work for or represent Apple, and yet I think the iPhone/iOS are superior products to Android based devices.

iPhone is slicker, smoother, more integrated, and (arguably) easier to use than most of the high end Android handsets that I've had a chance to use.

I recently sold my iPad mini and I'm suffering some pretty serious withdrawal being stuck on the Android tablet I currently have (it's no slouch either on the hardware side of things; Dell Venue 8 Merrifield edition). The Apple software is worth the premium.

Just my two-cents.

I agree with this. The thing about ios above anything else is the instant feedback when I touch the screen. Android over the years has become smoother, but it still will sometimes have a noticeable lag when I swipe the screen. It may be because there are background tasks running and bigger better things, I don't cAre. Until it is not there anymore I will never use or own an android product, it would drive me crazy.

Like my Nexus 5? Oh wait, damn Google/LG!!!

Then he should go work for Asus and tell them the same thing about their Zenbooks.

What a great move for Anand. I remember he found and diagnosed the wifi issue with the new MacBooks about a year ago. Apple used his fix to get it patched quickly after. I'm sure things like that don't go unnoticed.

Bright future for Anand.

I wonder what that means for the future of this website? How are the finances set up at anandtech? Who is in charge now? Who pays the bills, invests the profits, etc?
