Let's hope he will bring apple back to Steve Jobs levels. Disappoint in apple. Very disappoint, but I'm glad for Anand. Anandtech will likely stay the same.

Why does Apple need a reviewer, however good they are?

Is there any news on what position he's getting?

Love Apple or hate them it matters not, they are generally pretty bright when it comes to recruiting talent. I would speculate that Apple will be moving forward with a more interactive social media presence, perhaps Anand will be a part of that. He has a great reputation of being comprehensive in his reviews without being patronizing or condescending to end users looking to gain knowledge. The ability to relate to the average end user is a big and valuable commodity.

Moving from being an impartial reviewer to being part of a companies online social media presence is quite a leap. They rely on very different skill sets.
One needs honesty, integrity, a deep knowledge of the subject and a desire to serve your readers. The other needs pretty much the opposite.

apple blows.

give me something that will compete with surface pro 2/3, all-in-one touchscreen desktops, etc. that are actually affordable by the general population and then we'll talk.

I am happy for Anand, but it would be hilarious if his job was something like "help us disguise our next ARM cpu better so someone like you can't pick it apart and turn it into a spec sheet."

Cause lord knows Apple would LOVE for everyone to stop comparing compute devices based on specs.

You guys are ridiculous. Of all journalists out there, Anand is the only one whose reputation is impeccable. He's already stated that they'll be a very distinct firewall between him and editorial content on the site. This is the one guy I trust when something like that is said.

+1

I know Anand a little bit better than the other posters here. He's a truly good person. There's not one sleazy bone in his body, as far as I can tell. The idea that he's selling out or would need to sell out is, btw, patently ridiculous.

Congrats to Anand, more power to ya. Regardless of what you think about apple (I can't stand their way of doing things), it's a great opportunity for anand and given the chance to earn boatloads of money doing something we love to do, we'd all jump at the chance.

It certainly does explain his gushing love over crapple products over the past couple of years.

No it doesn't.

I think his positive opinion on most Apple products is because he thought they were good. And I would agree.

i dont consider it selling out....

mostly because i ditched M$ years ago

and apple runs on the *nix backend

and i'm exlcuse *nix nowdays....

rock on Anand......i remember when this place was small.

throw a homedog a bone someday?

I thought that iCloud ran on Microsoft Azure, although they don't really publicize this. The diehard Apple fanboys would probably be angry that their Photoshop and Final Cut Pro backups are on a Microsoft hosted server

The last thing that Apple seems to need help with is their social media presence. Practically every tech blog in the universe stops what they're doing and shifts over to 99% Apple coverage every time they do a new product announcement.

What he (and Apple) should really should be doing trying to assist the helpless technophobic morons in the mainsteam media (particularly the local news outlets) understand Apple's new product features. They always seem to make fools of themselves and botch all of the technicial details when they do a news story on a new iDevice.

This, people sure devote a lot of time to the dislike of Apple here. If you bash Google you get the "then don't use them" crap, but with Apple you can't use the "then don't buy them" line.

Wait, what? Why not?

For the record I don't think Anand is intentionally biased or anything, this post is only about the quote above.

Ah, yes, the common mindset that dehumanizes those who we don't have to see every day in exchange for not having to care about the destroyed lives of others at the expense of our convenience. I've worked for ones that don't.

Oh, get off your high horse. You've worked for ones that don't? Have you also visited any of these factories with all of the "destroyed lives"? I have been in many, many of them throughout China, Malaysia and Indonesia. Yes the people get paid very little. But guess what? Without the factories, they would have even less.

The factories are creating roads & industrial infrastructure, telecom and networking, providing electricity, and basically investing in areas where there was nothing.

In your Agrarian utopia, I suppose they were all better off living in huts and working in the rice fields. Yes, that's quite an ideal life.

I wonder why you're not living that way?

LOL local news needs to get technical details right? please.

Given the amount of coverage apple gets from local news, I think they (apple) should be getting a bill, for free ad time.

Hopefully the dweebs at apple will respect his input and aren't hiring him for other less than respectable reasons. Best wishes to Anand, and a sincere thanks.

In other news, Monster Cable is in talks to merge with Apple. Future components will be branded "Apple Monster", and carry an apple eating monster logo.

Too bad they couldn't be aquired by a company names "Cookie".
