apple ibook problems

i just got myself a 700mhz ibook at a school auction for $50. Not a bad score, of course they sell them as is and only turn them on to show you they work.
I get it home and it seems to be running perfect for the first 10 minutes, then i move it a little and the screen goes jittery and the sound freezes in one spot, it looks like what happens when you kick an old NES mid game. I wish i could give some more info on the problem, i havnt used macs much and i wouldnt know if this was a video card issue or something else.

You seem to have bad Logic Board, those cost more than the system.
You have 3 options:

1. Spend upwards of $500 on a new Logic Board.

2. Use it as a paperweight (a stylish one with an Apple logo, I might ad).

3. If you have one of those G3 clamshell models, I would consider upgrading it to a frisbee.

What he said. The iBook G3 series had many logic board failures and I experienced the same symptoms like you described: flickering or black screen, displaced lines and failure to boot.

After a certain delay Apple has admitted the fault and made an exchange program which regrettably expired for your G3 700 on March 18, 2005. If you feel lucky you can call or write Apple and ask if they still have special conditions for logic board replacements (if the serial number of your iBook matches the affected range given on the website - check the number because in a school the iBook might have been tossed around, this is another possible reason why the logic board is dead now). If not you should gut the iBook for the HDD because a normal logic board repair will cost you $500-1000.

ok thanks guys, they had more of these at the auction so ill see if i can maybe get another one or just have them replace it.
