Apple idiocy? No 3.5mm jack!

I heard this and went wow.

Apple is pushing its Lightning connector and dropping the 3.5mm jack in upcoming releases.

Personally, at work and especially in the lab, I wear HD280 Pros. Sticking with Android for sure.

The article I read the other day said the Lightning port could incorporate some kind of improved DAC that would let you plug your regular headphones into it, just with some additional controls (similar to how the existing iPhone earbuds have the click-switch built into the cord). Although they did just buy Beats, so who knows.

I too will be sticking with my 280's. Mmm, Kevlar cords.

Apple has introduced these new guidelines for manufacturers that allow them to build headphones that connect to an iPhone or iPad through the Lightning connector.

Now that Apple is allowing companies to build headphones that connect with the Lightning connector, that might be the first hint that Apple could remove that old, legacy headphone jack from devices down the road.

The entire article is speculation based on Apple releasing guidelines on how headphones would work through the lightning connector.
Stick with Android for sure.

So Apple is basically turning into Sony?

I can see them making lightning headphones, but I can't see them getting rid of the 3.5mm jack all together. However, they may launch an iPhone without it and try to sell a dongle that lets you use standard headphones. For an extra $40 of course.

I've sorta had my fill of the iPhone anyway. Been wanting to give Android a try for awhile now.

The headline should have had a question mark on the end, but what they're saying is pretty plausible.

Beats Electronics - my old phone had this tech to 'enhance audio' (called 'Beats Music' at the time) - I switched it on and off during music playback many times and couldn't tell the difference. In the end I switched it off.
