It might be better to pay another ~$50 to get a brand new one.

maybe because someone might rather have an ipod over a Dell. price isn't everything to everyone. form and function still count in some peoples' books.

also, most of apple's refurb stuff is practically brand new. i have purchased 5 refurbed ipods so far, and all of them have been indistinguishable from brand new ones. apple usually replaces the back panel which is what usually gets scratched. not to mention they come with the full warranty a brand new ipod come with...seems kinda silly to buy a brand new ipod...i don't.

For me, I like the iPod's interface much better than the dell jukebox's. Also, the iPod looks much better, though that's a personal thing.

hey mikee, thanks a lot. I actually went out today to buy an ipod. After visiting the apple store, I decided that I would hold off and buy an ipod at a different time. But, well, now I have given that up and am now going to be the proud owner of an ipod. Mix this with the deal that belkin is having right now for 1/2 off all products including their ipod products (with applicable coupon code), this is going to be a good ipod day!

Get the iPod. I got the 20GB model a few weeks ago and love it. Transfered my whole CD collection to it already. No regrets.

I've taken it running and mountain biking. No problems with skipping whatsoever.

Only complaint is that the battery life is a bit short, but that's only because I'm too lazy to be charging it up every few days. In its defense, I've never had the battery run out on me unexpectedly. It has always lasted long enough for its use.

ipods have TONS more accessories to go with it
there are many online communities for ipod users (i.e. ipoding.com)

I wouldn't use that arguement, because for some reason windows has the largest market share and that is not as quality product as other OSes

Dell needs to drastically lower the prices on DJ if they want people to bite and buy that big ugly iPod wannabe. Maybe at $99 I would consider DJ over iPod. DJ=dorky and iPod=hip. Ask kids why they buy $150 Nike shoes over $15 Walmart shoes.

A good chunk of buying Nike's was advertising, which towards the late 90s came back and bit them due to over-exposure. You can get decent shoes for much cheaper than Nikes. But anyways, that was a tangent. I have a 2nd gen 20 giger and the interface on the thing is great. When you're walking around and changing tunes on the fly, interface matters a lot.

Timmychen is right. Ipod is the only way to go, if only for iTunes.

I've had my Ipod for a couple of months, and I love the interface. Battery life has not been an issue so far. IPOD.

my brother sent in his ipod for service a while back it looked like they sent him a different ipod back as there were no scratches on it anywhere. turn around time was also very fast.

Two words - Marketing Whore.

I still dont see that much of a difference over the useage of the iPod over the jukebox. I can understand the interface is nicer on the iPod, as Apples have always been easier on the eyes. I also will give you there are more accessories as well as iTunes. But in the overall ease of use, the Jukebox is just as easy to use. Cripes you'd have to be part retarded not to understand how to use it!

Seems to me just to be a matter of preference, rather than practicality.

Don't you remember the 20/20 expose in the 80's that revealed it only cost $5 to manufacture Michael Jordan's branded shoes, which at the time were selling for around $125? Before that there had been an ad in (I think) the New Republic or something else to the same effect.

Point is, high cost does not automatically mean better craftsmanship or quality of raw materials. If anything, Apple just advertises very well. They've successfully convinced quite a few people that they own a superior player.

bought a silver ipod mini last week. it totally pwned . storing tunes is my only concern seein as i have my pda to store everythin else. plus 4g is plenty unless ur away from ur desktop/workstation for days at a time. the 30g+ ipod just doesnt make much sense in my situation.
