So, that's all the difference? Because I *acidentally* puchased 1st gen Mini from amazon for $ 179.. If there're more differences besides battery life and outlook, I will return it and buy one via Apple's education discount for $ 179. So, I am wasting about 5~10 bucks for return shipping to Amazon. Do you think 10 bucks extra + returning hassle would worth?

If I remember correctly the 1st gen has 8 hour battery life while the 2nd gen has 18 hour. So its a pretty significant difference.

Another difference between newer model and older model is the click wheel. Newer model has matching color with its body skin color on the wheel.

The battery improves from like 8 hours to 18 hours. Also, the menu dial is illuminated on the second gen I belive

new one only comes with usb cable.

1 gen is a 4 GB with USB and firewire cables, AC adapter and about an 8 hour battery life.

2 gen comes in 4 GB or 6 GB model. Both have 18 hour battery life but only have USB cable and no AC adapter (i.e. you have to charge it through your USB cable by keeping it connected to the computer).

What your link shows is via Education discount. With education discount, 1st gen is $169 and 2nd gen is $179. So, the ones from your link is 2nd generation.

If you want to keep your charger and firewire cables, keep the 1st gen mini. If you want 10 more battery hours, but don't care for the accessories, get the 2nd gen.
