after 2 years of heavy use, im still enjoying my skip-free creative muvo2 4g mp3 player that i bought for $150 at outpost.com. Did i mention it comes with no software, just drag and drop. All you people hyped up flash based players, cmon now..... i mean, really.

On the other hand, this nano is pretty frickin cool and the only ipod worth its hype. Remember i said worth the hype not worth the money. Did i mention that i have used my player for 2 years already? These supposed zealots interested in bleeding edge are really just buying scabs.

A warning about buying from Apple. Someone must be home to sign for it, even if you have a waiver on file with Fedex.

Its been 3 weeks and I still don't have my Nano. Apple refused to help. Fedex refused to try later (3 attempts all around noon). Fedex refused to deliver to my work, and also refused to send it to a nearby Fedex store. They want me to drive an hour (1-way) to pick it up. They wouldn't even let me just sign the damn slip to leave it.

At least UPS will try at different times if they miss you. Plus they are nearby so I could pick it up.

Looks like Apple will be getting my Nano back. Maybe it's a good thing with all of the scratched screen problems I am hearing about.

Well, I just killed quite a few Nano sales in my local Apple store this weekend when I asked to the demo lady ?if Apple will replace the battery after it lives its charge life?. The response was ?Apple did not address the battery replacement issue YET"

She also told me that battery can be charged "up to 400 times". Therefore, it should last very long time, but we should only charge it when it goes down to 1/3 of its level. Of course, I asked her how that is avoidable since battery automatically charges every time you sync the tunes. She was once again puzzled and not very happy. Few customers demanded answer the same question and nodding their heads.

All you have to do is to educate public about iPods. They are great product with wrong marketing methods based on aiming to suck money out of consumers after the purchase.

I just got my Nano 4gb black from onsale as previously posted.

Now I'm looking for quality headphones for my Nano.

I've already read about the Shure e2c headphones somebody mentioned earlier. Any other headphones I should consider trying out?

Thanks in advance.

IPod Nanos develop scratch of death

Bob Scratchit and his Tiny Tin

By Nick Farrell: Monday 26 September 2005, 06:40
FRENZIED FANS are returning their new iPod Nanos because the screen scratches easier than a street dog with fleas, the Times has claimed.

The shrine, and shop, to the almighty Apple in Regent Street, London, has received shed-loads of complaints that the colour screen on the reassuringly expensive machine is not up to scratch because it cracks too easily.

Already a website www.flawedmusicplayer.com has been set up for all those iPod fanatics who want Jobs? Mob to recall the Ipod Nano.

On the site is a disgruntled Apple enthusiast who was careful to keep his nano safe yet after running it only twice the screen showed an off-white rather than its usual beautiful colours.

One guy has claimed the screen cracked just by sitting in the pocket of his ever so baggy jeans. He took out his player to show his friends and discovered that his headphones must have cracked the screen.

Interestingly enough, when people have approached the mighty Apple to get their screens fixed, they have been told that they should buy a new iPod instead.

The official line is that stores will examine requests for returns of damaged players. So far, to the Apple spinsters, total recall is just a movie starring a Californian politician.

More at the Times, here.

I just left the stupid plastic adhesive on, no need to buy anything extra or worry about scratches.

Getting back to my earlier question: Any ideas for quality headphones for iPod Nano?

Thanks.

Aside from scratching, the screen is prone to cracking very easily. I think
we can figure out ways to keep the screen from getting scratched, hehe.

I would love to get one of these, but now I'm thinking a 20gb ipod or iaudio will fit my needs. Does anyone have any experience with either model?

What did they have, keys and nails in their pocket as well? I doubt that a pocket (which is basically a cloth bag) could do that.

At first, I believed people did not take good care of Nano. After read quite a few posts from Apple's own forum, now I believe something must be wrong about the material.

Having seen a few Nanos with scratches (after only light use) I also think that there is a problem that Apple needs to deal with. However, some of the complaints I've heard are complete BS. I think there was a post on the apple forums of a Nano owner who claimed that he "gently put the Nano down" on a table and the screen "magically cracked." Riiiiight...just because other people have valid claims doesn't mean that all types of damage are covered.

I've got a 40gb photo that has never been outside of its case. The screen is flawless, but only because I protected it from the moment I got it. iPods have always been susceptible to scratching, but I think the Nano's screen is a little too fragile. Apple should really address this issue, or I won't be purchasing a Nano in the future.

you may be right, but on the other hand it's easily conceivable that the design allows stress on the screen, such that it's already VERY near breakage force so a minor impact could indeed crack it. This becomes even more likely with the chips situations behind it as they will be unevenly heating it.

Bad designs make "normal" activities, problematic, in addition to making problematic activites, ever-moreso.

For portable music, I'm content to wait until I can seamlessly and painlessly (no wires hanging, except perhaps a power connection) bring my whole library of CDs (about 90G now, encoded as very high quality mp3s) with me, including into my car (wireless, but NOT over FM), with enough battery power to get me through about 6-8 hours. And I'll wait until I can get it for sub-$200.

Why am I posting here then? Hooray for people who buy these and drive the improvements I'm waiting for

Though I gotta say... it's pretty damned cool looking... Apple's always had great industrial design.

all are currently available. You have to have aux in on your car cdplayer and there will never be any other way other than fm modulation until the cows come home. Doesn't an ipod pla 6-8 hrs on a charge? The other better option is some cd players have a thing that can plug into the data port on an ipod and us it as a hard drive which greatly extends batterly life

He's arbitrarily declaring that he wants *it all* for practically nothing... a sign that having mobile access to the audio wasn't very important to begin with so of course this is not a target buyer for this or any other device.

Apple has not "always had great industrial design" though, that's perhaps the one area where they were miles behind everyone else, taking an esthetic concept and running with it as an artistic statement, instead of an industrial design.
