very hard decision. From Amazon total would be around $190 (scheduled to ship Nov 12) but from Apple store come out to be $193 (ship within 5 business day).

I went with IPOD store to get free engraving and to get a hand on Ipod nano faster

I personally go for MacMall. No tax in my state and you get free shipping and a free FM transmitter after rebate.

This looks pretty cool, but I got burned as an early adopter of the Shuffle. I'll wait at least 6 months before I even consider getting it.

Teh pwned n00b. Why would you get a player that forces you to use special software just to get data on there!? Why not just get an iriver...?

If I plug an iPod Nano into my PC, does the computer recognize it as a flash storage device, or will I need to use iTunes to transfer files onto there?

If this like all Photo Ipod then you can connect to PC as portable storage but for music you will have to use iTune only. my .02

Some questions:
1) Can iTunes import my current MP3's?
2) Do I HAVE to purchase music from Apple to copy it to the Nano? Or will it be able to copy ANY MP3, etc to the Nano?

Thanks,
HP

You can use your music you currently have but itunes sucks because if it crashes, you can lose your music on your ipod.

Creative's prices are always great and sometimes even better functionalities, but when you talk design, apple always win... hands down.

There's also the Orkan model: Nano Nano. Wait, let it settle. Ba-dump-bump

also, for 1/2/3G iPod owners, you also have that GC coming in (if you opted for GC) so it might be worth waiting for that.

GC?

apple's giving $25 store copuon for 3G owners and $50 store coupon for 1/2G owners for the battery settlement.

Hmmm, I just may have to get one of these soon. My wife has the 20 GB 4th Gen. Got to say, Apple has done a great job with their MP3 players. They are not just all hype...

Did you miss all the posts showing alternate ways of getting songs on the iPod, or do you not read so good?

This has to be the single lamest reason I've ever seen to hate on an iPod.

1. The odds of that are extremely slim.
2. Other software for other players isn't perfect either.
3. So what? Just retransfer them from your hard drive. Who doesn't have 4gb of free space on their hard drive? Do they even sell drives less than 50 gb anymore?

Everyone always hates on iTunes. IMHO, there isn't a better, more user-friendly music manager to be had. iTunes + iPod is the ultimate combination - and I'm not a big Apple nor Mac fan either. But I've tried a wealth of other players and nothing comes close to the iPod.

It's tempting to dump my 1st Gen Mini for this. The flash based storage will make me feel better about taking it biking or running. Plus a lot better battery life is nice.

I currently have an iRiver H320, and like it, but this is very tempting with it's reasonable storage capacity, and very small size, along with a screen. Wish it were a little cheaper though, but I guess that's what you get with Apple, a quality product, but at a premium price.
