2 questions, first how resistent are ipods to rain and snow? I go jogging with my iriver flash player in light rain and snow and so far for 4 years it's still going strong. Second, I've never used an ipod click wheel but how easy is it to change the volume and fast forward/rewind on the fly? (ie while jogging).

For durability issues check out the front page of arstechnica.com this morning, if you don't want to click I'll sum it up for you.

- They sat on it. No breakage
- They dropped it from a bike and a moving car at 50mph. Scratchage but no Breakage
- Finally they put it in the street and drove over it with a car. The screen had a horizontal line, but the Nano continued to play!!

Artechnica reviews Nano

Less than 6 months ago I bought a 1GB Shuffle. I simply didn't want a Hard Drive based player. Enter Black Nano. Ordered Friday, should be delivered Thursday. The 'Trickle Down Electronics Theory' in my house means my wife loses her 256MB USB Stick, gets to use a 1GB Shuffle as a memory device, and I replace the Shuffle with the Nano.

It sucked I bought the shuffle, 1 month before the $20 price drop and now 6 months before the Nano. But I've been so impressed, that it was an auto purchase. The only reason I even hestitated with the order, and didn't place it Wednesday, is because I kept digging around to find out what happened to the infamous 8GB Nano that was rumoured

From what I've read the nano sounds the same as the mini.
The best sounding Ipod in its lineup is the shuffle.

iPod Frequency response: 20Hz to 20,000Hz
iPod Shuffle Frequency response: 20Hz to 20,000Hz
iPod Nano Frequency response: 20Hz to 20,000Hz

So I'm really curious as to what sources are saying that one sounds better than the other.

From the Arstecha review; "the audio codec is the same Wolfson Microprocessor (WM8975G) found in the current generation iPods". I'd assume then it'll sound the same.

So where does it say that shuffle sounds better than the regular iPod?

Interesting thing to point out is that if you're really looking for sound quality, MP3 players probably aren't the best place to look.

under More Stores tab
-> click education

choose category
-> College or university student

enter zip code (10027)
-> select school, hit continue, accept, once at the "Take me there" section, look for

Note: If you prefer, shop at the Apple Store for Education.

Educational discounts, $180 @ 2gb, $230 @ 4gb, plus tax and shipping.

I'm a mac hater but this is finally a decent generational change from the original Ipod.

What's to prevent someone from lying and randomly picking one of the schools?
Do they verify enrollment?

I just ordered one under my sister's name, who goes to one of the schools

I have done such a big disservice to myself. I caved in and ordered the 4gb white one today from the apple store with educational discount. Now I'm 250 dollars lighter in my wallet. Damn Apple. I avoided the ipod curse for so long, but now it looks like i have finally succumbed.

Just got my wifes IPOD NANO in. I bought her the white 4gig (I don't think the 2gb is worth), free custom engraved a message, and she loved it.

It is unbelieveable how COOL the nano is. Everything who has come to the house, went directly to the apple store to try to get one. It is freaking crazy.

I'm getting the 4gb Black to match my Black razr, by friday according to fedex..

Damm you apple, i just sold my 40gig to replace with the 4gb nano. Crazy. But....

Could you let me know if it sounds better than your 40gb ipod? (or have you had mini?)

Thanks.

They all output at the same frequency ranges..... But somewhere on AT someone linked to a report saying that the nano had better sound quality.

I really like mine, and it sounds great even with the headphones that came with it.

It's just an audio source so it should work with your standard adapters like FM modulator or cassette adapter. If your car stereo has aux-line level input then thaty should work also. How well it works depends on the performance of your adapter.

What color for a NANO is better??? Black or White???

I think the Black looks awesome but may get scratched to hell.

Anyone think the same?

My white 4 gig nano just arrived. I can't get over how tiny this thing is. It easily fits into the coin pocket of my jeans. The screen is very sharp as well. Haven't had a chance to listen to any music yet cuz I had it shipped to work and all my mp3s are on my home computer.

I got mine today and I suppose the only thing that my 3G 15GB did better was it had Firewire transfer, which for some reason, feels a bit faster than the UB 2.0 transfer.

My engraved Black 4GB is on its way from China; should be here on the 16th. Already bought some matching black Sony canalphones.

I played around with one at Fry's, and it's awesome.
