New imac introduced. I like the new look better than before. Also that new thin keyboard looks sweet! I wonder how well it types, but I hear it's almost like their macbook keyboards.

iLife and iWork '08 also introduced. No really cool, new feature.

New iMacs still have the "chin", and screen height is still not adjustable.

I like the new iMac, the black border is cool. And as soon as I can convince my wife, I'm going to order the new iWork 08. Finally I can rid myself of MSOffice on my MBP.

Numbers is not new? I must be missing something Seriously though, it's about time they had an Excel competitor.

You're right. It's about time Apple came up with that. I wish they'd come out with something to rival Access though. I hated the alternatives for osx.

I like the new look of the iMac, but it really does sort of feel like they just modified the existing body... don't get me wrong, the aluminum shell is delish, but I was hoping for a more radical redesign. Loving the new keyboard though... may pick up one of the new keyboards to take with me on vacation for when I use my laptop as a media center.

The speed bump on the Mac Mini is welcome, and am impressed that they can fit a Core 2 Extreme into the iMac... but where are the nVidia cards?

Quick question though, I am wanting an iMac as my desktop/gaming machine... I play Guild Wars, Empire at War, older games that can run on a wrist watch, and will want to play Starcraft 2 when it drops... do you think that the X2400 will be sufficient or should I spend the extra dough to get the X2600?

Not a fan of the black border or the new keyboard

As ever, UK pricing is abysmal, especially for the mini.

kinda like it. but moreso because of the price drop. Sucks for me though, can't afford to just drop my 20" for the 24" right now. Tempted to get iWork, but really.. I have no need. I'll just wait for 08 to come out, and for me to get it through work

The core 2 extreme is only available on the 24inch unfortunately
also nice that can put in a 1tb drive, but again only on the 24, the other max out at 750

Honestly, I have been very disappointed with the last two years of Mac products. It seems like they put everything on the back burner for the friggin' iPhone.

However, I was very impressed with today's stuff. I like the new iMac (I can't wait to buy one in the refurb store in a few months). I'm glad that they updated the mini (although wireless N would have been nice).

The new iMovie looks great!

iPhoto is still a joke, as far as I am concerned. Picasa whoops its butt and is free. It's a real shame that Google will not release Picasa for OS X. I'm sure that they're scared that it would tick off ole' Stevie Boy.

I wouldn't even consider the X2400. But for the best benchmarks, check out Toms Hardware and compare the two in games you care about. The VGA charts, in the Reviews section, is excellent.

I am little puzzled on why they put so much effort into making the body and keyboard thinner. Was there a ground swell of consumers writing Apple and saying "unless you make your keyboard thinner I am not buying another Mac!" The body is even more strange because the overall dimensions when you include the stand aren't much different than before. On the other hand, I have seen more than one person complain about the iMac's "chin" and lack of any vertical adjustment. While the new chin is smaller, it is still there and still no vertical adjustment.

It seems to me a better design would have been to make the body thicker so they could have dumped the chin and maybe added room for a second 3.5 inch HD. I would have also liked to see some video inputs so that a game console, or two, could use the display.

I have never been a fan of the iMac and this new one doesn't change that. However, I suppose the people that like the design will find more to like with this updated iMac.

I've never used anything but NeoOffice on my MB, and I really like it (plus it's free!).

Unboxing the new iMac @ Ars technica, with loads of pictures.

Darn, that thing is sexy. I almost want one...

--must...resist...the....darkside....

Though I'd be happier if they offered one without a glossy panel. I hate those things. Glossy=glare. Yuck.

Not that I'm ever buying one anyway....

Gloss= more vibrant colors

I'm glad they went with the gloss. The matte finish on regular LCDs just have blah colors compared to the glossy version. I don't know where people are sitting that they are getting this ridiculous glare from. What, are you sitting outside or have a light bulb right behind you? The new iMacs can pretty much be reduced to just one cable (power), so freakin' move it to where your back is not to a window where the sun isn't shining through. The glare freaks act like they live in a glass house or something. Jeez.

Sorry to hear you prefer lackluster color & poorer contrast.

Gloss =

And damn, i wasn't a fan of the current iMacs, but these new ones look sexy :Q

I agree, more room for a 2nd HD (user accessible more importantly) would have been great. I don't need raid, but it's be nice to be able to upgrade space/have a scratch disk. While we're at it.. upgradeable video too...

With that said, I don't see a problem w/ the chin really (accept on the 17" model) and on the 24", I think it makes it very balanced in a way.

Agreed that would be nice, but I just don't think that's Apple's target market....

oh, it's pretty clear it's not. heh. We're just... dreaming.. haha. Sadly, I like OS X enough to work around the iMac limitations =/

It's nice that the cheapest iMac has firewire 800. Now you can use an external drive that rivals internal hd speeds.

unfortunately, from what i read, the video card is terrible compared to the 7600GT.

i also dont like that black around the screen and also how all screens are glossy now (i personally hate glossy, i prefer matte). i feel like that was the only update they could do besides add in santa rosa c2d and switch out video cards.
