I've never been a fan of their cases, they feel cheap & weird to me. And they kinda get grimy over time

I sort of like the iPad 1 case. I still use it, and it was reasonably priced. it does get dirty easily though.

Personally, I think:

iPad Mini: $279
iPad Mini Retina: $349
iPad 2 should've been an iPad 4 without the retina or maybe iPad 3 without retina for $399, or else sell the iPad 2 at $379 or something even lower.

Have to decide what to get myself for Christmas, iPad Air or retina MBP13.

The iPad is exactly as expected, but the rMBP had a few suprises. (thinner/lighter, price drop)

So my takeaways:

1. I was hoping for an iPad Mini Retina. I got an iPad Mini Retina. But I also got a 1-pound iPad Air. That is pretty phenomenal and definitely warrants some hands-on time before making a decision, especially since the Mini is now $400, making the full-sized (and very light) iPad only $100 more at $500.

2. I was hoping for a Macbook Air Retina. Instead, they released updated Macbook Pro Retina laptops. Thinner. Lighter. Cheaper.

On the hardware side, the new 13-inch version is more svelt than its predecessor, just .71 thick and weighing under 3 pounds, thinner and lighter. The 13-inch MBP will feature 2.4 GHz Core i5 (Haswell) processor with 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD. Its existing Retina display capacity will be enhanced by an Intel Iris GPU. It ships today $1300, $200 less than last years..

Edit:

According to Apple, the new 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro is 3.46 pounds, which is 0.11 ounces lighter than the previous 13-inch model. The new 13-inch model is also 0.71 inches thin, which is 0.04 inches thinner than its predecessor.

The 13" Air is 0.11-0.68" thick (vs. 0.71) and 2.96 pounds (vs. 3.46). It costs $1100 starting (vs $1,300). So for $200 more, you can get a Retina screen and more power with only a little bump in physical size & weight. That is definitely worth considering. I'd still rather have a Macbook Air Retina, but if the new one is hardly bigger & heavier and offers way more performance for $200 more, meh - I'd rather have the nicer screen, so I may pull the trigger on that.

Edit: OK not quite as lightweight - it's 2.96 pounds vs. 3.46 pounds. That extra half a pound definitely feels weightier in your hands!

Also, does anyone else think it's awesome that we're getting all-day batteries in our tablets & laptops now?

Don't see a reason to upgrade my iPad 4 to the Air, but I love new tech so.. who knows.

Love the thinner and lighter Macbook Pro Retina though. Was holding off on an Air Retina but this may do!

I don't think anyone that was wanting a Retina MBA can complain too much about the rMBP update.

I was looking to replace my iPad3 with a mini, but $399 is just too much. Looks like I will be iOS free in the near future.

Meh.

Things look refreshed if you're in the market for a new Mac. I'd like to get a MBPr, but $2000 for a 15" is too much.

Yeah, same. Although I just read that the official spec isn't "under 3 pounds", it's actually 3.46 pounds:

http://www.macworld.com/article/2056572/retina-macbook-pro-gets-major-overhaul.html

So really it's 0.11 ounces lighter and 0.04" thinner than the previous model, not a super huge difference after all :\

So... no retina on the iPad air? Did they refresh the retina iPad or not?

The Retina iPad is now the iPad Air - it went from 1.4 pounds to 1 pound.

The iPad Mini is now the Retina iPad Mini, same resolution as the bigger brother.

There is no Macbook Air Retina laptop (yet).

Edited above with the actual specs from Apple - actual weight is 3.46 pounds.

Yup, you'd have to be an idiot to pay $400 for an iPad 2.

I don't know about that. Some people will value the larger screen over the other features. It wouldn't be the way I would go but I am sure some will.

Ok, I see it in the store now, for some reason the product page did not mention the retina display.

Oh, and the Apple Store is live now:

http://store.apple.com/us

*sigh* I can either get the 128gb 13" rMBP with 8GB of RAM, or spend the extra $100 and double the space. =(

I wish I could make due with only 4GB, but developing in Java running WebSphere and 3 JVMs just isn't viable on 4GB of RAM. =(

Also, the 15" non-retina MBP is gone from the store.
