Indeed.

However, I dislike Beats as much as I dislike Bose. I am disappointed Apple bought them.

Beats perform just fine, despite what people like to say without having used them. They are more expensive, but so are Jordans and they "perform" similar to much cheaper basketball shoes. They are a name brand, of course they cost more.

Apple buying Beats makes perfect sense. Beats by Dre accounts for like 60% of the >$100 headphone market, despite being very young as a company. Dre and Jimmy were brilliant in their leveraging of artists and athletes to use their products in public. It is exactly how Apple got so popular with their iPods. They weren't technically superior to other MP3 players nor where they better made. They just had the marketing to make them the popular one.

I get what you are trying to imply. My iPad is great, I love surfing the web on it. I've tried out android tablets including the Samsungs but the lag on the screen when you drag (which I've read is because Apple stops all processes and devotes the resources to the ui, while the android devices keep processing the background apps) irritates me and is not something I could get over. If they ever fixed that I may give it a shot.

The apple laptops are also some of the nicest on the market. They really do show quality. You do pay for the apple brand, but that brand is valuable due to the quality behind it. For those that are on the "I hate apple" bandwagon that is tough to swallow..

They cost more and sound worse. They remind me of the shenanigans that Bose does with some of their home speaker systems.

Yeah, some Beats headphones won't be terrible, but there is literally NO advantage to buying a set of Beats headphones vs. the competition at each price point.

It makes sense financially. However, I consider their products inferior. They offer no benefit at all vs. numerous other brands.

And yes, the first iPod was superior to the competition, although it was $$$. Subsequent generations had a big advantage in the ecosystem.

I have both I suppose. I don't use any Apple devices anymore but have bought a few for my family.

I bought a pair of Bose bookshelf speakers for dirt cheap when our local Sun was going out of business back in 1997 I believe. I still use them for our basement TV and have zero complaints about their sound.

Buying stuff dirt cheap on clearance doesn't count. I'd do the same for some Bose speakers too.

OTOH, I'd have to wonder if you were like one person I know who was bragging they got a high dollar Bose 5.1 speaker system put in for $$$$. I just bit my tongue.

I remember back when I was a poor graduate student (must have been 1994 or so) I went into a Best Buy in Iowa City and they had those tiny Bose surround speakers with subwoofer. I have to admit I thought they sounded pretty good. If I recall correctly the set cost $999!! I was envious of anyone that could afford such technology. Now that I could afford it I find I no longer want such things lol.

But, aren't the Bose noise cancelling headphones still considered to be pretty good? Seems like I see them recommended quite often.

I haven't used the Bose noise cancelling headphones in a very long time, so I don't know the current state of the technology, but at the time I tried them they were actually decent. They were the go to company. High priced, but justifiably so for many.

However, I never use noise cancelling headphones myself. At home they're superfluous, and on the plane, you're better off using ear-canal phones.

At home I use various models of Sennheisers, and on the plane I use the Etymotic ER-4P.

And just because they were decent at noise cancelling headphones doesn't mean their other products weren't overpriced junk.

I use EPOS speakers, which are an obscure higher end British speaker brand. I have them connected to a Yamaha 7.1 amplifier.

They are from a long ago era where I had extra spending money and no wife and kid to spend it for me

Those speakers cost a wee bit more, but they're worth it.

My wife bought me some Bose noise cancelling headphones for my trip to Afghanistan year before last. They were great for the flights going and coming home, especially on the C-17s. They were also great at blocking out the generator noise and the pumps on the shit pumping trucks on our camp.

Of course, at least once they also blocked out the alerts for mortar attacks too. Oh well, live to tell the tale.

My speakers in my home theatre are Paradigm's Studio line. However, I rarely use them.

My speakers in my living room are Paradigms consumer line. I use them more but it's only a 3.0 setup, with crappy speaker placement.

I listen to headphones much more, since a lot of my media watching is on tablets and computers these days.

LOL. That could almost be used as a marketing campaign. You should see if you can sell that one to Bose.

I'm all about that Bose, bout that Bose, no Apple!

LOL.... :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Bought a BOSE Acoustimass 10 series III from Best Buy mid 90s while I worked there. IIRC, I paid about $750 back then with the employee discount. The performance compared to regular sized speakers was amazing for it's size. Of course I wasn't blind to the fact that larger speakers sounded better. Sold it to a friend early 00s.

I believe their active noise cancelling is some of the best out there, which also means Beats by Dre has some of the best out there (if Bose is to be believed that Monster ripped their technology off).

The real issue with headphones is there are like 2 pairs of over the ear wireless headphones with active noise cancelling available in the US: Beats by Dre and Bose. And both cost a ridiculous amount of money. I think more were introduced at CES 2015, but when those hit the market is anyone's guess.

My wife has a pair of Bose shelf speakers from around 94.

We ended up going with iPhones after Palm went belly up. Our choice at the time in Sprint was a 4S or the lower rez Galaxy S2. Now we're locked in with Apple.

I have Bowers & Wilkins speakers and Bose QC 20i headphones, and a bunch of Apple devices. What are you getting at?

Just checking/curious. My co-worker is a serious Apple and Bose fanboi. It got me to wondering if it's just him or not.

What does owner a product of a company have to do with being a fanboi? I own an AMD video card, does that make me an AMD fanboi? I own an iPhone and an accompanying rMBP for development for it. Am I an Apple fanboi?
