Take away any protection layer then sell a case to protect it.
Take away battery then sell the battery back.
Just pure greed is all I see. It's brilliant!

Hopefully people will care less about thinness. Then companies will make a phone that lasts at least a week on a full charge

Its just funny because this is the total opposite Apple is known for.

1) It's not a nice piece of hardware, its blatantly ugly.
2) They always advertise great battery life with every iphone. Although I think this is making up for the 6s' smaller battery.
3) Made the newer 6s and + thicker...now thickest with this lol

My old 6+ had amazing battery life (compared to my 6p). Ignoring the bulkiness with having a case...that phone would have literally 3+ day battery life with this case.

It's ugly, it's priced pretty high and the battery capacity is poor. I'm not sure how anyone at Apple thought this was a good design.

Well, the 6s' battery life is effectively similar to that of the 6, so I don't think that's why the pack exists.

The boring answer: Apple has been creeping into the accessory market more and more, and a battery case was a pretty obvious step. If nothing else, it's nice to see Apple at least acknowledging that battery life is an issue. I wouldn't be surprised if the next regular-sized iPhone has a bigger battery (though it won't be significantly thicker) or otherwise has a focus on longevity.

I would laugh... except Samsung and probably others are following Apple's lead.

"Hey let's strip out function and make things thin! thin! thin! needlessly thin! Then we can sell the missing function back in the form of gigantic strap-on accessories, at excessive prices, that make the thin! device into a bulky monstrosity! Profit!"

It's totally insane to me from an educated consumer standpoint... but totally brilliant from a pure corporate profit above user sanity standpoint.

If Steve Jobs was still around he would say WTF are you guys thinking? What happened to good Apple design? It died with him.

Working on my prototype extended battery pack/SD card reader for Galaxy phones. Hardly adds any bulk at all! $89 retail is my target price.

My biggest issue with iPhone battery cases (and all other battery cases) is they make the lower bezel YUGE, and it was big enough to start on the iPhone.

It was basically a square then and its basically a square now. So I guess his great design lives on

There was some terrible design during the Jobs era too.

Come on... The clamshell iBooks?

Even for the times it was wretched design.

All of the points here are valid, however this thing will sell like crazy just because it uses the lightning port you'd already have cables for. I didn't realize the other battery cases use micro-usb... that'd be an extra pain as an iPhone user to have different cables for you case and phone.

Samsung used to have the perfect solution to this.

Thin S5 with 2800MaH

"Fat" S5 with 3500MaH

Still fits in the official Lightning dock. I guess that's why Apple went with this hideous design.
