<< another notable difference between the titanium and the ibook is that you can get the ibook with a dvd/cd-rw combo drive, whereas the titanium only comes with a dvd drive. >>

The newest Ti (550/667) models do.

I certainly do prefer Apple's G4 line of processors.....especially with Mac OS X. Well, that is, until that G5 chip ships. That thing is gonna be a monster! Nothing confirmed, but they're looking at the first units topping out around 1.4 - 1.6GHz, Hypertransport System Bus, DDR Ram, rumors about the high end having a 10K RPM 160GB drive in it.....it just keeps going.

After saying I like the G4's better, I must say I've enjoyed the iBook more. Now, I've never used Apple's new 667 TiBook, but the iBook is just kinda fun!

If you don't have your heart set on a laptop, hold off! Think about it, Apple has iMacs shipping with 800MHz G4 chips.......mind you, these chips DON'T have the 2MB Level 3 Cache that the pro line has........but still, you gotta believe Apple is going to ship out a new G4 speed bump or the G5 chips soon. If they do, you'll see the 867MHz G4 tower drop considerably. I have an 867MHz G4 that handles....well....everything for me!

Just a couple things to contemplate before jumping in right now......a lot of people have rumored something today, on the 22nd....Guess we'll see later!

If your intrested you can get a 866mhz laptop with 512mb ram (extra $50 for each 256mb add on). It comes with a ten gig hard drive wich you can remove
and place in your desktop if you get the docking bay, it also has an integrated 802.11b wireless client. You can either get an extra 10gig space
cd-rom/dvd rom drive or a cd-rom/dvd/cdrw drive. It comes with a 32mb video card also.
You can get all this for an extra $400, and this is the ultraportable, lighter than the titanium. If you
go for a heavier laptop you can get even more for less money....

Don't flame me but, As far as I can tell you still get alot more with a pc for less money, the only reason I can see that
someone would go for a apple laptop would be an absolute requirement of firewire or familiarity of the apple operatiing system. Otherwise you can get a firewire
pci card for $30 and comprable video editing software on a desktop machine. Or perhaps you have alot of money to blow and like the way the titanium looks, I agree it does
look pretty cool. So does that dell though...

I am guessing the G5 will be a disapointment, the mobile one wont be 64bit and what does 64bit do for most mac users anyway. From what I have read very little, in
some instances the extra memory overhead slows the process down.
